There were projections of a third wave hitting Odisha before the winter, but situation doesn’t indicate so. While schools are reopening for Classes 8 and 11 next week, the government is contemplating kicking-off offline teaching for students of other classes after the Durga puja vacations.

Unvaccinated children are at a greater risk of exposure to virus. However, DMET chief CBK Mohanty said that with cases reducing, government can afford to reopen schools for all students, but with caution as a mandate. For that, teachers and parents should get vaccinated and ensure they don’t let the virus transmit to their kids.

Questioned whether schools are reopening for all students, Mohanty said that the government has decided that classes for all students would reopen phase-wise.

The health official further said that mass education department as well as health department will monitor school going children to avoid Covid-19 transmission.
