As per the Supreme Court's directive, Odisha government will soon be providing a compensation of Rs 50,000 to the families of Covid-19 victims. This information was share by the Directorate of Medical Education and Training (DMET) Chief, CBK Mohanty on Tuesday (Sept 28).
Speaking on the topic, Mohanty informed that the state government will be releasing a special Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the same.
The DMET Chief informed that earlier, the Supreme Court had stated that deaths due to suicide or accidents would not be counted as Covid-related deaths, even if they were found to be Covid positive.
However, as per the apex court's recent directive, even those cases would be counted as Covid-related deaths within 30 days of their demise. Thus, a directive has been issued to reconstitute a district-level committee that would be revising the Covid deaths in the state.
Mohanty also informed that people eligible for seeking the ex-gratia can apply to the district-level committee, which would then check the veracity of the claims and act accordingly.
