Presenting the first budget of the third term of Modi govt, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced allocation of ₹1.52 lakh crore for the agriculture sector, which is likely to benefit rural demand for automobiles - particularly entry-level two-wheelers and tractors. The Budget laid out 9 priorities for the year ahead, one of them being productivity and resilience in agriculture. Sitharaman announced that the govt will undertake comprehensive review of research to develop climate resilient seeds. She said, "New 109 high-yielding and climate resilient varieties of 32 field and horticulture crops will be released for cultivation by farmers. In the next 2 years, 1 crore farmers will be initiated into natural farming supported by certification and branding.” Additionally, the govt will also promote digital public infra for agriculture. This database would store vital information of farmer’s identity and their land details. The Finance minister also cited the flourishing aquaculture business, shrimp farming, while drawing importance on production, export and network for shrimp farming through NABARD. In the next 2 years, one crore farmers would be introduced to natural farming, FM announced, adding that domain experts from agriculture-based business giants will oversee the conduct of this research to ensure effectiveness and efficiency of natural farming.
