OTV Turns 24 Today: The Movement Continues

18th April, 1997. Bhumi Putra Biju Patnaik's last journey will remain etched in the memories forever. 24 years back on this day, when the whole nation became one to pay respects to the stalwart leader, Odisha saw the birth of a revolution. Exactly 24 years back, OTV had started its first live news telecast with the broadcast of this last journey of legendary leader Bijayananda Patnaik, fondly called and remembered as Biju Babu.

It was on this day, Odisha saw the birth of Odisha Television - OTV, which, as years passed by went on to become a household name not just in Odisha but is claimed to be the go-to Odia news channel for Odias across the globe.

Today, OTV celebrates its 24th birth anniversary with a heavy heart as the day marks the funeral of the Tall Man Biju Babu to the Swargadwara in Puri on April 18, 1997. In fact, OTV’s maiden live telecast glued people to their television sets, as together they witnessed the last rites of their beloved leader, Biju Babu with grief-filled hearts.

Today, OTV completes 24 years of its operation. The satellite news channel continues to rule the hearts and minds of Odias because it remains true to the core standards of journalism, never deviating from its charter of free, fair and unbiased news.

OTV has managed to cross all hurdles, OTV has managed to triumph in all obstacles. From a humble beginning to a spectacular rise, OTV has aced the race to become the biggest media house in the State and continues to dominate at the top. As we step into the 25th year of our association, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to one and all for being with us in this journey.
