It’s not every day the world celebrates a 113th birthday but for Joao Marinho Neto, the oldest living man, the milestone was filled with love, laughter, and family. The Brazilian supercentenarian marked the special occasion on October 5, surrounded by children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, as the Guinness World Records (GWR) shared glimpses from his heartwarming celebration.
A Journey Spanning Centuries
Born in Maranguape, Brazil, in 1912, Joao Marinho Neto is the last surviving man from that year, according to People. When Guinness officially recognized his record, he was 112 years and 52 days old. His remarkable journey reflects a life deeply rooted in hard work and family values.
From Farmer’s Son to Family Patriarch
Neto grew up helping his father in the fields, beginning work at the tender age of four. He first married Josefa Albano dos Santos, with whom he had four children, Antônio, José, Fátima, and Vanda. Later, he married Antonia Rodrigues Moura, welcoming three more, Vinícius, Jarbas, and Conceição. Today, his family tree includes six living children, 22 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
A Record-Breaking Life
In a heartfelt post, Guinness World Records wished him:
“Happy 113th birthday to Joao Marinho Neto, the world’s oldest man.”
Neto’s milestone comes just months after he extended birthday wishes to Ethel Caterham, the world’s oldest woman, marking a historic exchange between two longevity icons.
From humble beginnings to a record-breaking legacy, Joao Marinho Neto’s 113-year journey is a living testament to resilience, love, and the beauty of a life well-lived.
