Challenging the notion that weight loss requires strict diets and intense workout routines, social media influencer Shivani Karnick has shared her journey of losing 10 kg through a flexible and balanced lifestyle approach. Her experience highlights how consistency, patience and enjoyment can lead to sustainable results.
Shivani said she avoided rigid diet plans and instead focused on creating realistic, long-term habits. According to her, successful weight loss depends on discipline and regular effort, but also on keeping routines adaptable to prevent boredom and burnout.
80–20 Rule for Balance
As part of her approach, Shivani followed the 80–20 rule, where 80 per cent of her lifestyle was centred on healthy eating and habits, while the remaining 20 per cent allowed room for flexibility. She explained that restrictive diet culture often makes weight loss feel exhausting and discouraging, leading many people to abandon their efforts midway.
She noted that although allowing flexibility may slow progress slightly, it helps maintain consistency over time. “When weight loss feels like punishment, people tend to stop and restart repeatedly, which results in no real progress,” she said.
Making Movement a Daily Habit
Rather than adhering to a fixed workout schedule, Shivani focused on incorporating movement into her daily routine. After personal training did not work for her, she opted for activities she genuinely enjoyed. Her routine included dancing and long walks, regular gym sessions on weekdays, and engaging activities such as swimming, rock climbing or running on weekends.
She said changing workouts frequently kept her motivated and helped prevent physical and mental fatigue.
Motivation Through Self-Reward
To stay motivated, Shivani adopted a reward-based system, treating herself after every kilogram lost. She believes that variety, balance and self-reward play a key role in making weight loss sustainable in the long run.
Through her journey, Shivani Karnick has emphasised that enjoying the process and maintaining flexibility can be just as important as discipline when it comes to achieving lasting weight loss.
