Earlier, Mohit revealed that the initial script was actually meant for Aashiqui 3. Recently, he opened up about why he walked out of the project and how he had 'no pressure' while making Saiyaara.

Mohit on Walking Away From Aashiqui 3

During a recent interview with PTI, Mohit shared that he was initially in talks to develop the movie as a follow-up to his 2013 hit Aashiqui 2. However, the makers of Aashiqui 3 were in a “hurry to begin” the project, and he “couldn’t rush the process.”

“The Aashiqui 3 thing… it was too nascent. They (the producers) asked if I’d be interested in making it, and this was the idea I had. But I don’t commit to something until I have a script ready. They were eager to start, so I was more than glad when Anurag Basu took over, but I couldn’t rush the process,” he said.

Notably, Aashiqui 2 starred Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor. Aashiqui 2 was a musical romantic drama that resonated deeply with both audiences and critics. Its soulful music and heartfelt storytelling not only won hearts but also shattered box office records, cementing its place as one of Bollywood’s most cherished love stories.

No Pressure While Making Saiyaara

Mohit revealed that making Saiyaara came with a creative freedom he wouldn’t have had if it were a sequel.

“Once there was no sequel pressure or a star cast with an opening number to live up to, I stopped caring about the commerce. I just went and made a film. If I was making a sequel or a franchise, I’d be thinking, ‘Let’s make it better than Aashiqui 2, let’s make the music better.’ But I didn’t do that. I did what was best for the film. It was such a liberating process,” he explained.
