Elon Musk’s social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, experienced a major disruption globally on Tuesday, making it difficult for users across multiple countries to access basic features. The outage, which hit both the mobile app and website, prevented people from logging in, loading posts, refreshing timelines and using the platform’s core functions.
According to data from Downdetector, which tracks service interruptions by collecting user reports from various sources, complaints began pouring in from around the world. By 5:15 PM (IST), more than 11,500 users had reported issues. The disruptions were mainly linked to users’ Feed (47%), followed by Website access (30%) and Server Connection problems (23%).
Despite the widespread complaints, X had not released any official statement yet on the cause of the outage, leaving millions of users guessing about what went wrong.
Possible Reason Behind the Disruption
Around the same time, Cloudflare, a major web infrastructure and security company, also reported technical difficulties affecting several online services. While Cloudflare’s tools are widely used to keep websites running smoothly, from protecting them against cyberattacks to maintaining stability during heavy traffic, it remains unclear whether the issues at X and Cloudflare are connected.
Cloudflare plays a crucial role in supporting the backbone of modern internet experiences, offering essential technologies to ensure websites stay online and secure. Any disruption in its systems can lead to temporary instability across various platforms.
As users continue to face trouble accessing X, the company has yet to acknowledge the incident or explain its cause. With millions relying on the platform for news, communication and entertainment, many now await clarity on when normal services will resume.
