The manual surface observatories have been set up at all the district headquarters. The observatories will help keep a continuous watch of weather parameters and events including cloud coverage.
IMD Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said the definition of the LPA has to be updated after every decade, as per the international practice.
As per the IMD, the system has no impact on Odisha. "Dry weather prevailed over the districts of Odisha and dense fog occurred at one or two places over Jagatsinghpur district. The maximum temperature observed considerable rise at one or two places over south coastal Odisha. The temperature recorded over north interior Odisha and south coastal Odisha were normal and above normal," the IMD informed.
Several places in Mayurbhanj district received rainfall today morning. Similipal National Park in the district has been closed today for visitors following heavy downpours.
Other than improvement in the weather forecast accuracy, there has been enhancement in climate services, weather forecasting services, Numerical Weather Prediction modelling and meteorological observations.
During the review meeting, the Director General, India Meteorological Department, briefed the Committee about the current status of a low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal, which is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm by December 3.
In view of the low-pressure forecast, the Special Relief Commissioner has sounded alert for all Collectors and instructed them to remain prepared for the situation.
