Thereafter, the work from home model became the new normal in the corporate world.
However, with the pandemic situation improving, many companies including IT firms are reportedly planning to call back employees to the offices.
However, the Workforce and Increment Trends survey 2021 conducted by Deloitte revealed that only 40 percent organisations have finalised their return to work strategy. This means that 60% of companies surveyed are yet to devise a return policy. But at the same time 90 percent organisations now looking at a hybrid work arrangement, which is a combination of work from home and office.
Meanwhile, the survey also stated that companies do not prefer giving employees the choice on time and duration of work from home. In fact, approval from line managers or setting limits on the number of days, are some of the alternatives preferred by companies.
As per the Deloitte Survey, just 1 percent of the organisations are likely to use a pure work-from-home model. But at the same time, 88% companies are not planning to allow their employees to work from any location on a permanent basis, the survey reported.

The NSSO conducted the survey in May-June 2015 covering 73,176 households in 3,788 villages across the country. The ranking given on the basis of percentage of households having sanitary toilets and using them (either household or community toilets).
Asked about the NSSO reports that non-BJP or NDA ruled states did better in 2015, Tomar said the campaign "is for all".
"It does not matter for the central government which party is ruling in which state. The campaign is for the entire country and for all," he said.
When asked about his home state Madhya Pradesh securing 24th spot in the Ministry's list and 23 in NSSO's list, Tomar said being a minister he is responsible for the entire country and the government is taking efforts to keep the campaign active across India.
Asked about states like Bihar faring poorly in the NSSO survey, Tomar said the central government is speaking to state governments on giving priority to the Swachh Bharat Mission.
He said the Ministry is also organising meeting with sarpanches from different states to bring them on board to ensure the campaign is successful.
The government intends to make India open defecation free (ODF) by 2019, coinciding with 150th birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi.
In October 2014, the State government had said it will conduct DGPS survey in 148 iron ore and manganese mines to check illegal mining operations outside the leasehold areas.
Director of mines Deepak Mohanty had then said: "We have already completed DGPS survey of 39 iron and manganese mines in the State. The DGPS survey of remaining 148 mines will be conducted soon and is expected to be completed by the end of May 2015."
But close to two years down the line, the government has completed the survey of only 58 mines, but still believes it can complete the process in the next 6-7 months.
“There will be a joint survey of these mines by officials of the Forest, Revenue and Mining departments along with a representative of the mining lease holder. We are in the process of preparing the map. So far, survey of 58 mines has been completed and we hope to complete the rest within the next 6-7 months,” Mohanty told reporters after a high level meeting discussed the issue.
He said the government has constituted a team comprising officials of Odisha Space Applications Centre (ORSAC), director of mines and director of geology to undertake the survey work.
Mining experts say the delay in the survey work has not only forced the State government to buy time for e-auction of the mines, but also allowed the mining lessees to extract ores beyond their lease areas, as pointed out by Justice Shah in his probe report to Supreme Court on illegal mining in Odisha.
“Out of 192 mining leases of iron and manganese ores in the state, 130 lessees are/were noted to be doing production without lawful authority in violation of Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) notifications 1994 and 2006,” the Commission had said in its report.
Meanwhile, admitting the difference in the original lease area and the current area of operation, Mohanty said the concerned departments have been apprised to look into the matter.
“Difference is being seen in lease areas given 30-40 years ago and the current position. We have apprised Forest and Revenue departments to look into it before they are digitised,” Mohanty maintained.
Informing this to media persons here today, Janaki Ballav Mahapatra, Engineer-in-Chief, Water Resources department, said he has informed his Chhattisgarh counterpart about the visit of two senior engineers - Superintending Engineer, Hirakud Dam Circle, Harmohan Pradhan and Superintending Engineer, Dam Safety, Gopal Chandra Ray - to Chhattisgarh on July 25.
“These two officers, in the first phase of their visit, would locate the dams and barrages the construction of which have already been completed and their impact on the water flow of the river. Besides, they would also visit the areas where the construction of other barrages is underway. They will go through the master plan of these projects and collect detailed information. We will have a detailed analysis of these data and discuss them with the Central Water Commission (CWC) during the tripartite meeting scheduled next month,” Mohapatra said.
www.shaadi.com, a matchmaking service, conducted a survey to understand what Indian men and women think about roles in marriage, especially during festivals.
When women were asked ‘During festivals, do you think men and women have equal responsibilities?', 66 per cent said ‘No' and 34 per cent said ‘Yes'.
When men were asked the same question, 75 per cent said ‘Yes' and 25 per cent said ‘No'.
The data suggests a clear disparity in the point of view of men and women when it comes to sharing responsibilities.
However, the men are no longer expecting women to handle all responsibilities, especially during festivals.
When asked, ‘Do you think it's a woman's responsibility to do all the household activities?', 100 per cent of the users (both men and women) said ‘NO'.
As a follow-up, they were also asked, ‘Do you think men and women should share equal responsibilities in household activities?', 100 per cent of the users (both men and women) said ‘Yes'.
That said, it is believed that women are more involved in festivals, and when asked ‘Do you think women are more enthusiastic during festivals?', 47 per cent said ‘Yes', 42 per cent said ‘Maybe' and 11 per cent said ‘No'.
The survey also revealed that women would like an equal contribution, and when asked ‘How would you like the men to contribute?', 83 per cent said ‘Actively helping in the household chores', 17 per cent said ‘Cleaning the house' and zero per cent chose ‘Cooking for family and guests'.
This online survey received over 7300 responses from Indians (men and women; single and married) aged between 24 and 40 years.
"We, at Shaadi.com, believe that marriage is an equal platform and it is equality in marriage that leads to a happy marital life. It is very encouraging to see that this thought resonates with the mindset of today's youth," Gourav Rakshit, Chief Executive Officer, Shaadi.com, said in a statement.
New Delhi: For long the concept and topic of live-in relationships has been taboo in India but the times are changing with a number of women coming out in its support, according to a survey.
Inshorts, a news app, conducted a poll in the second week of May capturing the views of 1.4 lakh netizens -- 80 per cent being in the age group of 18-35 years, read a statement.
According to the survey, more than 80 per cent millennials think that live-in relationships are still considered a taboo in Indian society while more than 47 per cent Indians are of the opinion that marriage is better when choosing between marriage and lifelong live-ins.
More than 80 per cent Indians said that they do support live-ins as a way of life. Out of these, 26 per cent millennials went a step ahead and said that they would choose lifelong live-ins as an option over marriages.
On the other hand, 86 per cent Indians are of the opinion that lust is not the sole reason behind live-ins and more than 45 per cent say that it is more of compatibility testing before marriage.
In the report, 45 per cent respondents have also said that since Indian society constantly judges unmarried couples staying together, any move by the judiciary to support this will not have any effect on their mindset.
Azhar Iqubal, CEO and Co-founder, Inshorts said: "Live-in relationships, even after being legally recognised by the government, is a forbidden subject of discussion in Indian households. Our current survey was focused on capturing the sentiments of our Indian youth on such delicate issues."
The survey, conducted by Ipsos MORI, was carried out earlier this year in 27 countries for the BBC. In all, around 20,000 people were interviewed for the study that highlights the extent to which citizens think their society is divided.
According to the survey, 63 per cent Indians think that people in their country are tolerant of each other when it comes to people with different backgrounds, cultures or points of view.
On the other hand, Hungarians have rated their country as least tolerant followed by South Korea and Brazil which have been rated least tolerant by their people, of other cultures, backgrounds and points of view.
The survey found that in India, 49 per cent people think that difference in political views causes tension, followed by different religions (48 per cent) and socio-economic gap (37 per cent).
It also stated that 53 per cent Indians think that mixing with people of other backgrounds, cultures and points of view leads to mutual understanding and respect.
"76 per cent think that people across the world have more things in common than things that make them different. Agreement is highest in Russia and Serbia (both at 81 per cent) but lowest in Japan (35 per cent), Hungary (48 per cent) and South Korea (49 per cent)," it found.
According to Adam Mosseri, Head of News Feed, Facebook will sample a new set of users each day.
"There is always the risk that people will try and game any system. In this case we (1) randomly sample people, (2) actively work to de-bias the data so it's representative of the population and (3) re-run the surveys every day," Mosseri tweeted on Thursday.
"It's worth noting this isn't a rating system, nobody can opt into rating a publisher as trustworthy.
"We randomly sample new people each day, and only their responses are used. I'm sure some bad actors will try and game the system, but it's not as easy as you suggest," he tweeted to one user who criticised the survey.
The two survey questions are: "Do you recognise the following website? Yes or No" and "How much do you trust each of these domains? Entirely, A lot, Somewhat, Barely, Not at all".
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, in a lengthy post last week, revealed about the survey to determine sources that are "broadly trusted".
"As part of our ongoing quality surveys, we will now ask people whether they're familiar with a news source and, if so, whether they trust that source," he posted.
"The idea is that some news organisations are only trusted by their readers or watchers, and others are broadly trusted across society even by those who don't follow them directly," he added.
"This update will not change the amount of news you see on Facebook. It will only shift the balance of news you see towards sources that are determined to be trusted by the community," Zuckerberg noted.
Mumbai: Megastar Amitabh Bachchan has been voted the most engaging Indian actor on Facebook in a new survey.
According to Score Trends, the 75-year-old actor has over 30 million followers on the popular social networking site.
The survey announced Bachchan as the numero uno actor with 100 points on Facebook, closely followed by Salman Khan with 95 and Shah Rukh Khan with 68 points.
"Padmaavat" star Ranveer Singh ranks fourth with 52 points and Akshay Kumar is fifth with 49 points
"What worked in Mr Bachchans favour was his soaring popularity on Facebook on which the actor has 100 per cent engagement on his posts and official page and that is a huge for any Indian celebrity," Ashwani Kaul, co-founder of Score Trends, said in a statement.
Bachchan, who had earlier threatened to quit Twitter accusing the microblogging site of reducing the number of his followers, retweeted the surveys findings.
"YESSS now Twitter can you please oblige..." he quipped.
The actor has over 34.4 millions followers on Twitter.
Other hindrances were meetings, calls and trainings after office hours (18 per cent) and and negative attitude of supervisors towards work-life balance (11 per cent), the report said.
"As opposed to the belief that technology is a facilitator, one-third of the young professionals find technology (laptops and mobile phones) a hindrance in managing family with work commitments," it said.
According to the survey, 67 per cent of the India's working professionals think about work, even when they are not at work.
"About half of the respondents in relationships currently, confessed the lack of work life balance makes them or their partners irritable, ill-tempered," it said.
Over 2,000 working professionals in the age group 18-55 years participated in the survey, with maximum responses received from people in 18-34 age bracket, according to Monster.com
A new US-specific survey data compiled by market research firm Edison Research highlighted that Facebook's user-base was shrinking, particularly in the coveted 12- to 34-year-old in America, which was once recognised as the most lucrative market for the platform.
"Edison's survey signal that the social network's privacy woes and continued breaches of user trust may be having some noticeable effect on its most coveted slice of users. Also, there's conjecture about as Facebook has become more popular among older people, whether that's affected younger people," The Verge reported on Thursday.
Although, one interesting element that was observed was that whole Facebook users are awarming away from the app, they are flocking to Instagram.
"The photo-sharing platform, which by its nature collects less personal information from its users, can be a simpler, less toxic alternative to using the main Facebook service, now overrun by ads and plagued by all manner of misinformation and fake news," the report said.
Instagram now counts more than 1 billion global users and over 400 million monthly users of its Snapchat-like feature, Stories.
Facebook's biggest competitor is another one of its own products, and it seems unlikely the company will stop the shed of users anytime soon, the report added.
Decline in the user-base does not really come as a shock given that the platform has been pointed at several times for its practices of collecting user information without their consent for ad targeting and finding friends purposes which have outraged users and privacy advocates.
The company was pulled up on Tuesday over its secure login process two-factor authentication (2FA) where it asked users to add phone numbers, which could be searched by advertisers. The practice drew criticism even from Facebook's former chief information security officer Alex Stamos.
Last month, Facebook reportedly decided to put an end to its unpaid market research programmes after it was found to have been bribing teenagers in India and the US to give their personal information.
The survey found that the percentage of mothers with no formal education was high across the three age groups, with 31 per cent, 42 per cent, and 53 per cent of mothers of children aged 0-4, 5-9, and 10-19 years, respectively, not having attended school.
According to the survey, only 20 per cent of mothers of pre-schoolers, 12 per cent of mothers of school-age children, and 7 per cent of mothers of adolescents had completed 12 or more years of schooling.
The percentage of mothers having completed 12 or more years of schooling varied by state. For mothers of children aged 0-4 years, the highest rates were in Kerala (60 per cent) and Tamil Nadu (51 per cent), while less than 20 per cent of mothers of pre-schoolers had completed more than 12 years of schooling in 16 states.
The CNNS was implemented in all 30 states of India during 2016-2018. The CNNS included three population groups - pre-schoolers 0-4 years, school-age children 5-9 years, and adolescents 10-19 years - in rural and urban areas and included a total sample of 38,060 and 38,355 children aged 0-4 years and 5-9 years, respectively, and 35,830 adolescents aged 10-19 years.
The survey has described the demographic and socio-economic characteristics of the sample population, including age, sex, place of residence, mother's schooling, caste, religion, household wealth status and dietary practices. This information is useful for understanding factors affecting the health and nutrition of children and adolescents across the country's diverse geographies and populations.
In 5 out of 9 Empowered Action Group (EAG) states (Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh) and in Meghalaya, mothers or caregivers of less than 50 per cent of children aged 0-4 years were exposed to any type of mass media (read a newspaper or magazine, listened to the radio or watched television, at least weekly).
A much larger proportion of mothers/caregivers (more than 80 per cent) were exposed to at least one form of mass media in all five south Indian states (Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana), in addition to Haryana, Maharashtra, Mizoram, Punjab, and Sikkim.

More than half (around 55 per cent) of children and adolescents surveyed consumed a vegetarian (without egg) diet. From 36 to 40 per cent of children and adolescents reported consuming a non-vegetarian diet. The remaining reported diets were vegetarian plus consumption of egg.

More than 80 per cent of the people in Orissa and Himachal Pradesh prefer Modi as the Prime Minister. Surprisingly, a high percentage of people in the northeastern states -- 75.68 per cent -- echo similar sentiment.
On the other hand, the approval rating for Rahul Gandhi as the PM is extremely low with only 7.36 per cent preferring him in Odisha and a mere 10.20 per cent and 10.96 per cent backing him in Himachal Pradesh and northeastern states, respectively.
However, the former Congress chief enjoys a high approval rating of 54.28 per cent in Kerala, from where he has been elected to the Lok Sabha, followed by Tamil Nadu at 48.26 per cent.
In West Bengal, 62.19 per cent respondents prefer Modi as the PM, while 28.38 per cent back Rahul Gandhi. Modi is also popular in Jammu and Kashmir, where 46.74 per cent of people prefer him as the PM, while 34.15 per cent back Rahul Gandhi.
In 10 states -- Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Uttarakhand, Maharasthra, Jharkhand and Bihar -- nearly 65 per cent of the people prefer Modi as the PM over Rahul Gandhi.
In Delhi, 61.75 per cent of people back Modi as the PM while only 22.98 per cent prefer to see Rahul Gandhi in that post.
In Telangana, 60.32 per cent of people prefer Modi as the PM.
In Uttar Pradesh, 56.21 per cent of people prefer Modi as the PM, while 29.48 per cent back Rahul Gandhi.
Surprisingly, in Punjab, the support for Modi and Rahul Gandhi is evenly split at 29.5 per cent.
Barring Kerala and Tamil Nadu, no other state or Union Territory has preferred Rahul Gandhi as the PM candidate in the two-horse race. Rahul Gandhi's approval rating in 15 states is below 25 per cent, while in four states it is below 20 per cent.
The survey was carried out among over 30,000 respondents across the country, covering all the 543 Lok Sabha constituencies.
