Following the accident, tension prevailed at the site even as the injured were rushed to the district headquarters hospital. The condition of the injured undergoing treatment was stated to be critical.
Local residents spotted the elephant inside the pit full of water. It was unsuccessfully struggling to come out. On being informed about the incident, the forest department immediately deployed an excavator at the site
