A minor girl was allegedly raped by a youth in a village under Fatehgarh Police limits of Nayagarh. The youth reportedly took the minor to an isolated spot on pretext of giving her lift to home and allegedly raped her.
However, the accused was nabbed by the villagers and thrashed black and blue before being handed over to the police. The survivor, on the other hand, was rescued in an unconscious state and rushed to hospital.
Meanwhile in Bhadrak, another minor girl was sexually assaulted by a youth in Rural Police limits. The girl was rescued in a critical condition with injuries on her head and it was alleged that the accused attempted to kill the survivor after raping her.
While police have detained a person in connection with the incident, the girl has been admitted to Bhadrak hospital for treatment.
As per reports, the family members of the 15-year-old girl had lodged a police complaint after she allegedly went missing on July 20. Today, her decomposed body was recovered from a forest near Gopalpur village under Hemagir Police limits in Sundergarh.
A team of police reached the spot and a probe is underway in this connection.
In another incident on Sunday, an eight-year-old was rescued in an unconscious condition in Angul. The survivor, who is now undergoing treatment at the hospital, was allegedly raped while her tormentor tried to kill her.
On the other hand, Odisha Assembly today witnessed unruly scenes after Leader of Opposition Pradipta Naik expressed grave concerns over rising incidents of sexual assaults against minor girls in the State.
Both BJP and Congress members targeted Odisha government and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on the issue.
Sources said the girl was allegedly gang raped by 8-10 miscreants at Harpali Basti under Biramitrapur police limits of Sundergarh district. An investigation is underway.
Condemning the incident, office of Jay Panda tweeted, "SEVEN '7' Rape cases EVERY DAY in Odisha. Law and order is in shambles & this rising impunity in the State is by- product of lack of nat'l media attention and politicisation of police & politicians sheltering criminals."
In another incident, police recovered the decomposed body of a 15-year-old girl from a forestnear Gopalpur village under Hemagir Police limits in Sundergarh. It is suspected that the girl was brutally murdered after being raped and later dumped in the forest. As per reports, the family members of girl had lodged a police complaint after she went missing on July 20. Monday evening, after her decomposed body was recovered from the forests, police initiated an investigation.
Two days back in Angul, an eight-year-old girl was found lying unconscious in a garbage dump with injury marks on her body. The survivor, who hails from Maharashtra, was sleeping with her family members on the verandah of a shop near Angul bus stand when a miscreant allegedly abducted raped the girl before throwing her near garbage dump. It is suspected that the accused also tried to kill the girl after committing the crime.The girl has been admitted to the district hospital and her condition is stated to be stable.
Meanwhile, the pre-lunch session of Odisha Assembly has been washed out as Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro adjourned the House till 3 PM today amid ruckus by Opposition of minor girl rapes and missing children cases.
