For the local people, the majestic Munge hill located in Alanda Panchayat under Bangomunda block, which houses a wide range of flora and fauna, is important for more than one reason.

Besides the revenue loss, the illegal operations at the said quarry are also posing a huge threat to the people residing in nearby areas and the flora and fauna of adjacent Kuldiha Wildlife Sanctuary. 

The Khadimati Surakhya Committee, a local organization, has been opposing mining operations in the stone quarry located near Hatasuku village under Kumargandhana Panchayat in Lamtaput Block of the district since a long time.
