The SSC is one of the largest recruiting agencies of the government with its main mandate being recruitment to all Group B (non-gazetted) and Group C (non-technical) posts in various central ministries/departments.
The medium of examinations conducted by the Commission is normally Hindi and English.
Union Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions Jitendra Singh said the move is in tune with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of providing a level playing field to all job aspirants and ensuring that no one is denied an opportunity or being at disadvantaged due to language barrier.
He said the move will fulfil the long pending demand of candidates from different states, and particularly from south India, for the exams being conducted earlier in English and Hindi.
"This is likely to benefit a very large number of candidates from all over the country," the minister added.
Singh asserted that after this historic move, efforts are on to gradually include all the languages mentioned in Eighth schedule to the Constitution.
He said PM Modi during the inauguration of the "Kashi Tamil Sangamam" in Varanasi in November last year had pointed out that 'despite having one of the world's oldest living languages, i.e., Tamil, we lack in honouring it fully".
Singh said it is the continuous endeavour of SSC to provide level playing field to different sections of the population so as to bridge the regional disparities and attain the ideals of the Constitution while at the same time celebrating the linguistic diversity of our country.
The minister said in order to review the scheme and syllabus of examinations conducted by the Commission, including the medium in which the examinations are conducted, the Department of Personnel and Training had constituted an expert committee.
It has, inter-alia, recommended that it would be in fitness of things to conduct the examinations for lower-level posts in multiple languages, which to begin with, can start with a few languages and then gradually increase to include all the languages mentioned in Eighth schedule to the Constitution, said the statement issued by the Personnel Ministry.
The government has accepted the recommendations of the committee, it added.
The registration process has already started on January 18 and the last date to apply through the application window is February 17.

Since the time Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials came across three bogus companies -- Symbiosis Merchants Private Limited, Sentry Engineering Private Limited and Echhay Entertainment Private Limited -- with Arpita Mukherjee as director in all the three, the central agency officials had been wondering about the identity Kalyan Dhar, the second director in these three entities.
Finally, they learnt that Dhar is the husband of her younger sister. However, Dhar has informed the ED officials that he had no knowledge about his name being included as the director of the three companies.
Dhar has informed the central agency that he is a driver by profession and in 2011 Arpita Mukherjee appointed her as her personal driver at a monthly remuneration of Rs 10,000 which was later increased to Rs 18,000 a month.
However, ED officials said that Dhar has informed them that some years back, Arpita got photocopies of his identity details like AADHAR card, PAN card and Voters' ID cards.
"However, Dhar has informed us that he had no knowledge of why she got the photocopies of these documents from him. We are cross-checking how far the claims of Dhar are true, an ED official said.
Dhar has also informed that besides the driving assignments, he also used to do odd jobs for his wife's elder sister, including purchasing items of personal use and delivering them to her residence at Diamond Park Complex in South Kolkata.
The three companies that came under ED scanner have three different addresses. The address of Sentry Engineering Private Limited's whose registered office is in Diamond City South, Tower-2, Flat No-1A, 1st Floor, Kolkata - West Bengal 700041, which is the same housing complex which houses Arpita Mukherjee's residence, where from ED officials recovered huge treasure on July 23.
The second company, Symbiosis Merchants Private Limited and its registered office is 19, Nawab Abdul Latif Street, 22, Belgharia, North 24 Parganas Kolkata - West Bengal 700056, the locality that houses Arpita Mukherjee's ancestral residence, where her widow mother is still residing a solitary life.
The registered address of the third company Echhay Entertainment Private Limited, whose registered address is 95, Rajdanga Main Road, LP-107/439/78, Kolkata - West Bengal 700107 as per the records of the Registrar of Companies (ROC) under the Union ministry of corporate affairs.
However, the ED has already received a complaint that the address of Echhay Entertainment is actually registered in the name of his younger brother's cable television company. He also furnished documents, including trade license in favour of his claim.
The recruitment drive will be to fill up 1411 posts out of which 1270 posts for Open category and 141 posts for Ex-S category.
