The normalization is done based on the fundamental assumption that "in all multi-shift examinations, the distribution of abilities of candidates is the same across all the shifts".
This assumption is justified since the number of candidates appearing in multiple shifts in the examinations conducted by the Commission is large and the procedure for allocation of examination shift to candidates is random. The following formula will be used by the Commission to calculate final score of candidates in the multi-shift examinations:
The Staff Selection Commission conducted the following two examinations in the month of January, 2019.
(i) Junior Hindi Translator, Junior Translator, Senior Hindi Translator and Hindi Pradhyapak Examination, 2018: This Examination was conducted at 146 venues in 100 cities across the country on January 13, 2019.
As against 49,394 registered candidates, 15,573 (31.53%) actually appeared in the examination.
The tentative date for the declaration of the result of this examination is 25th March, 2019.
(ii) Selection Post Examinations (Phase-VI) The Selection Post Examinations (Phase-VI) for three levels viz. Matriculation, Higher Secondary (10+2) and Graduation & above were conducted by the Commission from 16.1.2019 to 18.1.2019 at 99 venues in 44 cities, across the country.
As against 3,56,569 registered candidates, 1,05,390 (29.56%) candidates actually appeared in these examinations.
In a fresh notification, the Commission has released the following details on the Stenographer Grade ‘C’ and ‘D’ Examination. The details are as follows:-
This Examination was conducted at 208 venues in 107 cities across the country. As against 4,36,910 registered candidates, 1,85,357 (42.43%) actually appeared in the examination.
The tentative date for the declaration of the result of this examination is April 15, 2019.
Prior to that, the SSC through another notification had issued an information for the candidates who had appeared two major examinations in the month of January 2019.
In a fresh notification, the Commission stated that the tentative Answer Keys for the said examination have been uploaded on the website of the Commission i.e. https://ssc.nic.in.
The candidates may login using their User ID (i.e. Roll Number) and Password (as per Admission Certificate) and submit representations, if any, from March 3, 2019 to March 6, 2019 (6:00 PM) through online mode only, on payment of Rs 100 per challenge, the notification added.
The candidates may take a printout of their respective Response Sheets as the same will not be available after the above specified time limit.
To address any variation in difficulty levels of question papers across different shifts, the scores of candidates will be normalized by using the formula published by the Commission through a Notice dated February 7, 2019, the notification stated.
The Commission further informed that short-listing of candidates for appearing in PET/PST will be done on the basis of normalized marks scored by the candidates.
Normalized marks scored by the candidates in Paper-I will also be used to determine final merit as per the guidelines contained in Para-12 of the Notice of Examination.
The salient features of the examination are given below:
A total of 52, 20,335 candidates had registered themselves for the reported 58,373 vacancies. However, 30,41,284 candidates appeared in the examination. The overall percentage of attendance stood at 58.26%.
The examinations were conducted at 297 venues in across 125 cities, while the number of shifts were 54 (3 shifts per day).
The tentative date for declaration of results is May 31, 2019, stated the Commission through a notification released on March 11.
As per the latest notification released by the Commission, the candidates may login with User ID (i.e. Roll Number) and Password (i.e. Date of Birth) from March 20, 2019 to April 19, 2019 to see the percentage of mistakes committed by them in the Skill Test and download the same from the website of the Commission within the specified time limit.
The Commission declared the result of the Skill Test of Stenographer Grade ‘C’ & ‘D’ Examination, 2017 on November 28, 2018, December 10, 2018.
