Wickremesinghe, who took over as the Acting President after his predecessor Gotabaya Rajapksa fled the country and resigned last week, is the first Sri Lankan president to be elected by Parliament following a vote.

At least 20 people have been hospitalised following violent clashes between the police and the protesters.
Wickremesinghe conveyed this information via the Secretary of the Foreign Ministry, while the Justice Minister has directed to expedite the case.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said that the biggest issue currently facing the agriculture sector is the fertiliser and fuel shortage.
There has been an intense call for President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to also resign however, he has refused to do so.
