It is suspected that her parents might have buried the newborn neck-below in the nearby forest.
It was a group of local villagers who heard the cries of the baby when they had gone to nearby forest. They rescued the newborn with assistance from local police after thunderstorm that had lashed the region yesterday.
Later, she was admitted to hospital by an ASHA worker and her condition is said to be critical.
"Locals had searched for the baby and she was buried upto neck in the mud and her face was covered with leaves. Today, locals rescued her and informed me about the incident," said ASHA worker, Lilimani Munda.
The villagers claimed that the newborn’s condition is suspected to be critical as she had to brave heavy rains and cold last night.
"At around 8:30 am, the neonate was admitted to the hospital and preliminary treatment is being provided to her," said Dr. Bholeswar Pradhan.
While the preliminary results from different parts of the country had good news for the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), it brought bad news for many top leaders from various parties who bit the dust in the polls.
The biggest setback was for Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)'s Abbasi as he lost both his seats, in Islamabad and his native constituency in Murree. He was defeated by Imran Khan in the capital.
Shehbaz Sharif, who had contested from three parliamentary seats - Karachi, Dera Ghazi Khan and Lahore -- was defeated by PTI candidates in Karachi and in Dera Ghazi Khan. However, he managed to win the Lahore seat.
PPP leader and former PM Gilani lost his home turf in Multan.
Similarly, another surprise defeat was that of former Interior Minister Nisar Ali Khan, a former confidant of Nawaz Sharif who had defected from the PML-N and fought as an Independent. He lost in Rawalpindi.
He was among the politicians who have consecutively been winning their seats since 1988. It was for the first time he lost in his home constituency.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, who was fighting his first political battle from Malakand, lost by a huge margin of 10,000 votes.
Awami National Party (ANP) leader Ghulam Ahmed Bilour also lost his seat. "It seems Imran Khan is the favourite leader of the people."
However, the matter came to light after Munda’s wife Nandini lodged a police complaint against him in connection with the murder after the couple picked up another quarrel on September 7.
Based on the complaint, Police today exhumed the body of the infant from the spot. Earlier, Munda’s wife reportedly had helped him to dispose the body.
“My husband had come home after work in a drunken state. After dinner we all went to sleep. Later, I found that blood was oozing out of my son's mouth,” said Nandini.
Nandini further stated that her husband later buried the body in her presence at an isolated place.
“Our investigation in this connection is on and the decomposed body has been sent for autopsy. Only after the post mortem report comes, we can further comment on the allegations,” said Bhadrak Additional SP, Kailash Panda.
As per reports, Das was trying to stop two persons riding a motorcycle at around 8 PM yesterday when, in a bid to escape from being caught, the biker rammed the motorcycle into Das leaving him critically injured.
Das was rushed to Raghunath Murmu Medical College and Hospital but he died there while undergoing treatment.
Meanwhile, police have detained the duo in connection with the incident.
It is pertinent to mention here that police have launched a massive campaign to create awareness among people about traffic rules and road safety following complaints regarding reckless driving, especially by youths at the particular stretch of road.
