"At present, the percentage of lady constables in RPF is 2.25 per cent. Keeping this in mind, the Prime Minister gave a direction for recruitment. We are going to recruit 4,500 lady constables, 50 per cent of the total vacant posts notified," informed Railways Minister Piyush Goyal in the Rajya Sabha on Friday.
RPF looks into protection of railways infrastructure, while the Government Railway Police (GRP) takes care of law and order and it is under the State government, he said.
Minister of State for Railways Suresh Angadi said the recruitment process is going on.
To another supplementary question on providing walkie talkie to women constables, both Goyal and Angadi said the matter will be examined.
In a written reply, Goyal said the recruitment process started in 2018. Out of 8619 and 1120 vacancies notified for constables and sub-inspectors, respectively, 4216 and 201 vacancies, respectively, were reserved for women.
"This process is likely to be completed soon and this will further increase the number of lady constables and officers in RPF," he added.

The Board had then informed candidates that the link would be active from August 17 to August 23 (11:59 PM) and the final decision on the complaints received would be intimated to the candidates through SMS and Email by August 31, 2019.
Now, the RRB has released another notice informing that the scrutiny of the complaints is still going on and it will take some more time. Hence, now, the date of intimation to the candidates through SMS and Email of the final decision on the complaints received has been extended from 31.08.2019 to 06.09.2019.
"The decision on grievances will be final and binding on candidates. All candidates are advised that they should keep viewing the official websites of RRBs regularly for further update," the notice read.
It may be noted that the official notification for RRB NTPC Recruitment 2019 was released on February 28, 2019. While the online application process started on March 1, 2019, it was concluded on March 31, 2019.
Similarly, the tentative months for RRB NTPC 1st Stage Computer Based Test (CBT) were June to September this year. However, the RRB has neither announced the exam dates nor released the admit cards.
Reason, RRB is reportedly busy in conducting other recruitment exams like RRB junior engineer (JE), RRB ALP Technician and therefore there might be further delay in the announcement of examination dates of RRB NTPC, said sources.
The Railway official further stated that the scrutiny of application of RRB NTPC is still on and the board is busy in conducting other exams. Therefore, they are not sure about releasing the schedule this month and the next month i.e. October too, The Indian Express reported.
The Railways will conduct the exam for the recruitment various posts under RRB NTPC (Non-Technical Popular Categories) which include Junior Clerk cum Typist, Accounts Clerk cum Typist, Junior Time Keeper, Trains Clerk, Commercial cum Ticket Clerk, Traffic Assistant, Goods Guard, Senior Commercial cum Ticket Clerk, Junior Account Assistant cum Typist, Senior Clerk cum Typist, Senior Time Keeper, Commercial Apprentice and Station Master in various zonal railways and production units of the Indian Railways.
A total of 35,277 vacancies are notified for the recruitment out of which 10,628 are for level 12th pass while a total of 24,649 vacancies are for graduate degree holders.
The candidates will have to undertake two computer-based tests (CBTs)- 1st Stage Computer Based Test (CBT) and 2nd Stage Computer Based Test (CBT) which will be followed by Typing Skill Test/Computer Based Aptitude Test (as applicable) and then Document Verification/Medical Examination.
The CBT 1 will have negative marking where 0.3 marks will be deducted for every wrong answer.
However, there is no official confirmation by the RRB regarding the dates of examinations but it is being said that the RRB NTPC 1st Stage Computer Based Test (CBT) might be conducted by the board in October as the RRB is reportedly busy in conducting other recruitment exams like RRB junior engineer (JE) and RRB ALP Technician.

Sources said, the Board is likely to activate the exam city and date intimation link for the second stage CBT today. The train travel pass for the selected candidates has also been made available at the official website of RRB from September 9.

The RRB JE CBT 2 2019 will be conducted for 120 minutes and the question paper will consist 150 multiple-choice questions (MCQ). The PWD candidates will be given an extra 40 minutes. There will be negative marking of 1/3 for each incorrect answer.
