Sunday afternoon, the Regional Centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed that the south-west monsoon has covered the entire state of Odisha. The Met department informed that with the further advancement of South-west monsoon, the entire Odisha is experiencing onset of monsoon.
A few days after two Cyclones - Tauktae and Yaas - battered the west and east coastal states of the country, another low pressure has formed in the Bay of Bengal leading to apprehensions about formation of another cyclonic storm.
With the predictions of a low pressure & advancement of Southwest Monsoon during the next 2-3 days, Odisha is likely to receive extremely heavy rainfall between June 10th and 14th.
It has been hardly two weeks since Cyclone Yaas ravaged parts of Odisha, the India Meteorological Centre (IMD) has predicted formation of another low-pressure area over North Bay of Bengal (BoB) around June 11. This may cause the Southwest Monsoon to advance into most parts of Odisha.
The Cyclonic Storm 'Tauktae' is intensifying into a Severe Cyclonic Storm and is very likely to further intensify into a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm Saturday night. It is very likely to move north-northwestwards and cross Gujarat coast between Porbandar and Naliya in the afternoon or evening of May 18. Under its influence, heavy to very heavy falls will be witnessed at a few places and extremely heavy falls at isolated places over Kerala and over Coastal and adjoining Ghat districts of Karnataka on May 15 and heavy to very heavy falls at isolated places over the same area tomorrow. Heavy to very heavy falls also likely at a few places over south Konkan & Goa and heavy to very heavy falls at isolated places over north Konkan on the 15th.
