It may be mentioned here that around 20 cows were rescued by activists of various organisations from the Kochuveli-Guwahati superfast express at Bhubaneswar railway station on May 24. The Bajrang Dal activists had detained two persons and thrashed them for allegedly transporting animals illegally in the parcel bogie of the train.
According to reports, locals spotted the body near the railway line last night and immediately informed the police. Later, the police reached the spot, recovered the baby's body and sent it for post mortem.
As a few strange objects like dolls and other religious materials were found lying near the body, it is being suspected that the death of the infant might be due to occult practice which involved human sacrifice.
Though the locals have demanded immediate probe into the matter, the investigation is halted over a dispute between the jurisdictions of Railway and Titlagarh Police, sources said.
A similar incident was seen in Bangamunda police limits recently and it is claimed that such practices are done in blind faith to fulfill wishes with a deal of sacrifice.
According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police(Railways), Dinesh kumar Gupta, the woman who was sitting on the railway line between the Adarsh Nagar railway station and Azadpur railway station was saved by Singh who at the very last second pulled the woman out of the track.
"Singh then went to warn three children who stood on the track, looking at the woman, however in a bid to save the lives of the children Singh got hit by Kalka Shatabdi Express and was admitted to a hospital where he succumbed," Gupta added.
The police on Thursday decided to help the family of the deceased who gave his life to save the children and the woman. A cheque of Rs one lakh ninety three thousand and six hundred was handed to Singh's wife.
