Former India captain Rahul Dravid has been appointed as the head coach of the senior Indian men's cricket team, said the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday.

With Dravid, the current head of National Cricket Academy applying, the job for the Cricket Advisory Committee becomes easier as there aren't any big names in fray who can match the batting great's stature

Applications for several positions including the Head Coach of Indian Cricket Team were invited from eligible candidates by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday.

The basic idea behind having the Dravid-Mhambrey combination in the Indian team set-up is to ensure that in another two years when the transition of this team happens, the changing of the nucleus is smooth.

BCCI wanted Dravid, who is the coach of the Indian junior teams, to take up the job full time but Dravid has declined as he does not want to travel too much.
