After meeting the Puri sheer, Subramanian Swamy said, “I am aware of the controversies surrounding the project. The temples were the hub of knowledge and innovation and Kings used to frequently pay visits to the places. It is everybody’s duty to protect our temples.”

Swami Saraswati said “Carrying out GPR survey in middle of the night clearly indicates that the government was afraid of public. That’s why it was done in the night to keep it hidden from public glare.”

"In order to avoid any harmful impact on Srimandir, the government should have carried out any construction works after consulting with architects, engineers and experts," he said.  

As discussions are underway on proposal to change the name of the pilgrim city, Puri, the Shankaracharya of Puri, Swami Nischalananda Saraswati, shared a very different view on the matter.
