She arrived in India for a two-day official visit on Sunday to strengthen the India-EU strategic partnership. This was her first visit to India as the President of the European Commission.
The PM said that generally he is not comfortable about receiving awards but when the Mangeshkar family called with the honour in Lata Didi's name, then he could not refuse and it became a symbol of her love and affection for him.
During the visit, Modi also launched the 'Amrit Sarovar Mission' and transferred the amount of the National Panchayat Award into the bank accounts of the winning Panchayats.
The prime minister said that Palli has shown the way to the country for achieving carbon-neutral state. "People of Palli has helped in the project. They have also provided food to people engaged in the project," he said.
Talking about water conservation, he said that it is the basis of life of every living being and water is also the biggest resource that is why our ancestors gave so much emphasis on water conservation.
"People's interest in history is increasing a lot and in such a situation the PM Museum is also becoming a centre of attraction for the youth, connecting them with the precious heritage of the country," he said
On the occasion of National Panchayati Raj Day, Prime Minister Modi is visiting Jammu and Kashmir to participate in the celebrations and address all the Gram Sabhas across the country. Prime Minister Modi will be visiting Palli Panchayat in Jammu's Samba district.

During bilateral talks with his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi, Johnson discussed the ways to boost trade and security ties with India, which buys more than half of its military hardware from Russia.
Prime Minister Modi while addressing the press, said, "He (Johnson) has played a role in strengthening India-UK relations. His coming to India during 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' is historic."
Addressing the joint media address after the bilateral talks with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson held at Hyderabad House, Modi said, "Recently we have concluded FTA talks with UAE and Australia. We wish to go for FTA with the UK with the same spirit and commitment.
Dr Ghebreyesus, who shared the dais with Modi, tried to start his speech in Gujarati.

Prime Minister also highlighted the three-decade long association with the Prime Minister of Mauritius Pravind Kumar Jugnauth and his family and thanked him for his words and presence.
At least 15,000 people are expected to greet both the prime ministers who will travel from the airport to Raj Bhavan, as per the release.
