Sources said the man had three children and still maintained a physical relationship with the girl by luring her with false promises. "He forcefully kept physical relationship with me," said the girl, who is stated to be five-month pregnant now.
Getting information, Childline officials rushed to the spot and rescued the girl.
"The minor girl became pregnant after a person of the same village maintained a sexual relationship with her. A complaint has been lodged at the police station and the girl will be sent for medical examination today after which she will be handed over to the Child Welfare Committee (CWC)," said Childline official Durjyadhana Karada.
Meanwhile, a case has been registered on the basis of a complaint lodged by the girl's family at the Mohana police station. Investigation is on into the incident, sources said.
"The father of the minor girl in Muktinagar village alleged that her daughter was raped in November last year. However, the girl did not report it to anyone as the crime was committed by one of her relatives. Her father lodged an FIR today here stating that the girl is five-month pregnant. A case has been registered under POCSO Act and we will initiate an investigation to nab the accused after conducting medical examination of the girl," said IIC of Mohana police station, Prasant Kumar Behera.
A case in this regard was filed by the girl at Town Police station on Wednesday.
As per the complaint, the youth identified as Manas Ranjan Patel of Dengibhadi in Sundergarh district was engaged with the girl in November last year. He had also maintained physical relationship with her after the engagement.
However, Patel called the girl few days back and broke the relationship questioning her character.
The girl has alleged that Patel took the step after her father expressed his incapability of giving gold jewellery and a car as dowry. Patel could not be reached for comments on the allegations.
“I had blind faith on him and did not question him ever. I even managed to stay in touch with him for long hours despite the time zone difference between India and America. I was emotionally attached with him and duping me at such a stage is not acceptable,” said the girl.
“A case has been registered at Town Police station as per the complaint of the girl. She has also been sent for medical examination and investigation is underway. Action will be taken as per law after investigation,” said IIC of Sundergarh Town Police station, Ashok Kumar Giri.
A woman who recently filed a complaint against the accused said: “After maintaining physical relationship and promising to marry me, he fled with Rs 1.5 lakh. There are as many as 100 women who have become victims of this fraudster.”
According to reports, Priyaranjan used to lure women by introducing himself as doctor, bank manager or a government employee. After establishing physical relationship, the accused allegedly used to extract money by blackmailing the victims.
Earlier on February 5, the cops had arrested Priyaranjan on the basis of phone recordings. However, he had refuted the allegations and said that he was being falsely implicated.
Based on the complaint of a woman working at a hostel in Bhubaneswar, the accused was arrested. “I had filed a complaint earlier this year following which he was arrested but later somehow he managed to get bail,” said the complainant.
As per reports, another woman who helped Priyaranjan get bail was also cheated by him.
Speaking on the issue, social worker, Rituparna Mohanty said, “Despite multiple complaints against the accused, he is roaming free. He mostly targets divorced, widows and those staying alone away from their family.”
