India on Saturday provided another 40,000 metric tonnes of diesel to Sri Lanka under the credit line facility.

The Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) effected as many as 14 hikes of petrol and diesel between March and April 6, putting the prices of the fuel on a higher side. The rise in the prices of petrol and diesel has hit the common man hard.

The incentive is being offered since the prices of both lemons and petrol have escalated in recent weeks.

Prices have been on a freeze since then despite the cost of raw material spiralling. International oil prices were around USD 81-82 a barrel in early November as against USD 114 now.

To achieve 20 per cent blending by 2025, and to meet the requirement of the chemical and other sectors, about 12 billion litres of alcohol/ethanol would be required.

International oil has roared higher as concerns about the pandemic, especially the impact of the omicron variant, have eased off.

Disruptions in the US Gulf Coast production following Hurricane Ida and other storms have led to sharp draws in the American and global inventories.

Fuel prices have been hovering at record levels on account of 41 increases in its retail rates since April this year.
