A fresh cyclonic circulation is likely to brew over Bay of Bengal around September 18, the Regional Meteorological Centre of the IMD said on Monday
A Low Pressure area is likely to form over North Bay of Bengal around 19th August, 2022.
“Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at a few places (7 to 20cm) with extremely heavy rainfall (>20cm) at isolated places over the districts of Bargarh, Sambalpur, Angul and Keonjhar,” the weather office said in its bulletin.
The southwest monsoon is now going through a weak phase in Odisha. The dry spell has led to apprehensions in some parts of the state which have received deficient rainfall in the Shravan month so far.
People have been advised to keep a watch on the weather and accordingly move to safer places to protect from lightning strike.
At present, the State is experiencing heavy rainfall activities under the impact of the low pressure area over North Odisha and neighbourhood.
The weather office has issued yellow as well as orange warning for several districts for the next five days.
According to IMD, this year for the first time, Bolangir and Titlagarh are the two cities that crossed 45 degrees Celsius mark on Thursday with the temperatures climbing to 45.3 and 45.2 degrees respectively.
India Meteorological Department (IMD) Bhubaneswar regional centre on Thursday sounded Yellow Warning for as many as eight districts.
As per Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre, high humidity may make life miserable in most parts of the coastal areas during the period.
Squally weather with wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is likely over north Andaman Sea and adjoining eastcentral Bay of Bengal during next 5 days.
Odisha is likely to witness heatwave conditions as day temperature is likely to rise by 3 to 4 degree Celsius gradually after 3 days.
Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said in southern and coastal Odisha, there will be no heatwave conditions.
As many as 22 places in the State recorded maximum temperature of 40 degree or above on Saturday.
The stormy weather is expected to bring much-needed relief for people of the State reeling under sweltering heat.
