Around 50 girls of Bhatrasauni tribal school today walked a stretch of 12 kms to reach the office of Collector. They took the step after their repeated complaints over shortage of faculty members fell into deaf ears of administration.
However, they failed to meet the Collector as he was absent and discussed their problems with the District Welfare Officer.
A day ago, over 100 students of Morada Patapur government high school in Mayurbhanj district walked 13 kms to lodge complaint before the Collector against school headmaster and a teacher. Lili Nayak's father had lodged a complaint with the Morada police about his missing daughter on May 23, 2012. In a bizarre twist to the case, Das, who was the then OIC of Morada police station, pronounced Lili dead and produced a body to prove his contention before arresting Lili’s husband and her brother-in-law and forwarding them to the court.
But the case turned on its head after Lili, suddenly appeared in the court a year after going missing.

Notably, the Collector's office was some 50 kms away from their hostel. The students had already covered a distance of 5 kms before district administration officials including Welfare Extension Officer (WEO), District Welfare Officer (DWO), local police and school headmaster stopped them near Jhinkiria Chhak.
The students alleged that they were not given adequate food and drinking water in the hostel. They further alleged that despite repeated complaints, the warden of the hostel did not pay heed to their grievances and instead punished and verbally abused them.
Though the girl students initially refused to return, the officials managed to convince them with assurances to redress their problems at the earliest.
