As per the latest forecast, the southwest monsoon has gained pace and is likely to advance over north Andaman Sea, Bay of Bengal during the next two days.
The IMD said that monsoon rainfall this year is likely to be 94 per cent of the LPA over North-West India; 100 per cent over Central India; 97 per cent over South Peninsula; and 91 per cent over North-East India — all with a model error of ± 8 per cent.
"The conditions are now favourable for advancement of the south-west monsoon towards Odisha. The state is likely to witness the onset of monsoon within a week," Director of Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre, H R Biswas said.
While southwest monsoon's Arabian Sea branch supports the advancement of Bay of Bengal branch, cyclone Vayu had weakened the advancement of monsoon towards other parts of the country, he said.
Noting that a low-pressure area is likely to build over north Bay of Bengal in next few days, Biswas said the system help in advancement of monsoon.
Some parts of Odisha are now experiencing rainfall and thunderstorm activities which are likely to continue for the next two days, a MeT official said.
