While the Congress party observed two-minute silent prayer meetings across Kalahandi district on Sunday, the BJP organised a rally to press for the dismissal of Minister of State (Home) Dibya Shankar Mishra for his alleged complicity in the case.
The opposition parties, including BJP and Congress, have scaled up attack on Odisha government and are demanding removal of Mishra for his alleged complicity in the Mamita Meher murder case.
Addressing a presser, BJD spokesperson Sasmit Patra alleged that the Opposition parties are trying to defame Odisha and its people by trying to set a national narrative through, what he said, false acquisitions.
Displaying signs of pressure-cooker situation, BJD spokesperson linked Opposition attack on the State government over the Mamita murder case to bringing disrepute to Odisha
At a presser, State BJP General Secretary Prithviraj Harichandan said that the lady teacher was brutally murdered, her body chopped up in pieces and her body dumped 40 ft below the ground. The prime accused Gobinda Sahu had received undue favours from the Minister of State (Home) Dibya Shankar Mishra and other influential leaders of the ruling BJD, he alleged.
"On the auspicious ocassion of Deepavali, we all lit one more diya in the memory of Mamita. We hope the government to wake from slumber and take discernible action against all those involved in perpertraing the heinous crime of murdering the innocent teacher," said BJP Spokesperson Sambit Patra.
The saffron party leader also urged the people of Gajapati to extend their wholehearted support to the bandh to make it successful across the district
Moreover, the youth wing of the party has also questioned the stoic silence of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik over the case

The ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) seems to be imploding with infighting in the ranks which cropped up recently amid demands of Minister Dibya Shankar Mishra’s removal from the State Cabinet.
Minister Dibya Shankar Mishra, who is under fire over Mamita Murder case, was intercepted by BJP Yuva Morcha member Deepjyoti Mund near MSA chhak in Bhawanipatna. The BJP Yuva Morcha member then asked when the minister would resign and demanded investigation & justice in the matter.
Minister Dibyashankar Mishra while attending a programme ‘Mo Paribara, Odisha Paribara’ in Kalahandi claimed that he had never visited the Sunshine Public School where deceased Mamita Meher was the headmistress.
On the other hand, Congress has threatened to observe Odisha Bandh on November 12. The Congress has warned of dire consequences if Chief Minister Patnaik dithers on dropping Minister of State for Home Dibya Shankar Mishra from the cabinet by November 10
The Congress party announced to call Odisha Bandh if the Minister didn’t tender his resignation in the next 10 days
Some protesters waved black flags at the Chief Minister during the demonstration seeking answers from the government for delaying action in the murder case of the Kalahandi lady teacher. Police later took several agitators into custody in the aftermath of the protest.
