Officials expect around five lakh pilgrims to take the holy dip on Friday.

With just a day left for the Magh Mela to begin on 'Makar Sankranti', seven policemen on Mela duty have tested positive for Covid.

It may be recalled that in 2019 during the Kumbh Mela, it was Mahant Narendra Giri who had requested the Mela administration not to give land to tainted institutions, after which the then mela official Vijay Kiran Anand had banned all such institutions.

Mela officer, Shesh Mani Pandey, said: "The current of the river is quite strong and our experts are working tirelessly to minimise the erosion. We are keeping a tight vigil on the currents."
