Odisha government’s assurance of supplying water to all water-stressed districts seems to have fallen flat in Koraput and Rayagada districts. The irrigation projects in several areas in both the districts have been lying defunct leading to acute water crisis.

The Sarpanch has been identified as Lakhmi Miniyaka from Gotiputa Gram Panchayat under Bandhugaon block in the district.

Odishas near-extinct Kala Jeera rice is making a comeback, thanks to the tribal women who are cultivating and marketing it to the outside world from Machhara village in Koraput district with the help of MS Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF)

A team from Andhra Pradesh on Thursday visited the tribal museum in Koraput district. They said they were there to get an idea of a tribal museum as their government is going to set up a similar museum in their state spending Rs 35 crore.

The five-member team led by chief engineer of Tribal Welfare department Shreenivas reached the tribal museum in Koraput. The team has two professors and two curators. They visited all the galleries of the museum.

The Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) is flagship project in India to provide good all-weather road connectivity to unconnected villages. The project has failed to serve its purpose at Jeypore in Koraput with OTV exposing chinks in the yojana thanks to Rural Department.
