The American-based pharma major Johnson & Johnson (J&J) has applied to the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) for permission to conduct a vaccine trial of the Covid-19 single shot Janssen vaccine in India on children of 12-17 age group.
The five vaccines granted Emergency Use Authorisation in India are Serum Institute's Covishield, Bharat Biotech's Covaxin, Russia's Sputnik V, Moderna and now Johnson & Johnson.
The vaccine is 85 percent effective against severe/critical disease and demonstrated protection against hospitalisation and death from the deadly coronavirus.
Johnson & Johnson said on Thursday the US Food and Drug Administration has extended the expiration date on millions of doses of its COVID-19 vaccine by six weeks.
