Krishna Janmashtami is being celebrated with a lot of pomp and gaiety across Odisha.

While there was an early morning gathering of devotees at the Sri Krishna Janmasthan, as the day progressed, the crowds swelled in Vrindavan, where the festival was celebrated at three temples during the daytime.

Lord Krishna was born in Mathura on the Ashtami of Krishna Paksha in the Bhadrapada month.

Lord Krishna is one of the most revered of all Hindu Gods in India. Krishna's mischief, wisdom, strength and love are well known to all his devotees and thus they eagerly wait to celebrate the day he was born, which is popularly known as Krishna Janmashtami.

Every year during Janmanshtami festival, people choose to celebrate the birth of Lord Krishna with much pomp and show. But with Covid restrictions in place this year, devotees in many places would be deprived of partaking in traditional activities such as 'Dahi Handi' ceremony and 'kirtans'.

India is a country of diverse cultures, languages, religions and ideas. Janmashtami, the day Lord Krishna was born, is one of the many festivals celebrated in the country with much pomp and fervor. Krishna Janmashtami or Gokulashtami falls on the eighth day of the Krishna Paksha in the month of Bhadrapada.

This year, Krishna Janmashtami will be celebrated on August 30. This festival which is also known as Gokul Ashtami, celebrates the birth of Lord Krishna, who is Lord Vishnu’s eighth avatar. But this time Krishna Janmashtami is considered more special and is auspicious in many ways.
