Panic gripped the residents of low-lying areas in Balasore district after Jalaka River breached the danger mark. Villagers fear yet another flood as the river has swelled above 6.29 metre against the danger mark of 5.50 metre.

Residents who are already reeling under severe loss due to the flood last month, anticipated more loss. 

Meanwhile, Hirakud chief engineer Anand Chandra Sahu has demanded corrections in the rule curve of the reservoir. 

Morada, Rasgobindapur and Suliapada which are situated in the upper catchment of Jalaka river in Mayurbhanj district received heavy rainfall in the past couple of days. 

Incessant rain in upper catchment areas has led to the rise in water level of Jalaka River, which is flowing above the danger mark at Mathani in Balasore.
