The Indo-US Joint Special Forces exercise “VAJRA PRAHAR 2023” commenced on Tuesday at the Joint Training Node, in Meghalaya’s Umroi.

His victories in the 800m, 1,500m, 3,000m, 5,000m, and cross-country events make him the only athlete to achieve this feat in 2023 and one of a select few since the games began in 1978, the Defence Ministry said.

Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria can submit their applications online via the official Territorial Army website at jointerritorialarmy.gov.in.

Army Chief Gen Manoj Pande and all ranks of the force condoled the death of Agniveer, Gawate Akshay Laxman, who hailed from Maharashtra.

The Army asserted that it does not differentiate among soldiers based on whether they joined the force prior to or after the implementation of the Agnipath scheme.

An Army official said that the focus of the operations are on restoring connectivity to North Sikkim through Chungthang, which was the worst affected during the devastating floods. 

It was some 30 years ago that the trend of joining the Armed Forces began and so far 21 students, who passed out from the school, have joined the armed forces - Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force.

In the run-up to the Kargil Vijay Diwas, the Indian Army commenced a historic all-women Tri-Services 'Nari Sashaktikaran Motorcycle Rally’ from New Delhi to Dras Ladakh, to pay homage to the bravehearts of Kargil conflict and honour their supreme sacrifice.

The primary event will mark the 24th commemoration of the victory at Kargil War Memorial in Dras from July 25 to 26.

"Alert troops of the Indian Army on the night of July 10 foiled a major infiltration bid along the LoC in an operation," Defence Ministry spokesperson Lt Col Suneel Bartwal said in a statement.
