The heat wave may further intensify with mercury reaching 45 degrees Celsius in some areas between April 18 and 20.
Bhubaneswar was on the boil by becoming the state's hottest place. Bhubaneswar became the hottest city with 41.9 degrees Celsius by Tuesday afternoon.
This instruction of the government has come after the IMD, Bhubaneswar, forecast that hot and humid weather conditions and heat wave are likely to continue in many districts during the next five days
Bhubaneswar recorded a maximum of 41.2 degrees Celsius by 2.30 PM today.
The India Meteorological Department predicts the 2024 southwest monsoon in India to have above-normal rainfall at 106% of the Long Period Average (LPA). Current moderate EI Nino is expected to shift towards La Nina conditions mid-season, with potential positive Indian Ocean Dipole developments later.
Residents are gripped in fear as the day temperature is likely to cross the 40 degree mark today.
By 2.30 pm, Bhubaneswar was the hottest city with 39.6 degrees, but mercury shot up to 40.5 degrees in Paralakemundi in the evening. It became the hottest city in Odisha.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier predicted the rise of mercury in Odisha. The temperature has started to peak again and by 2:30 pm on Sunday, seven cities including Bhubaneswar recorded temperatures more than 37 degrees.
Apart from Bhubaneswar, 11 places recorded a maximum temperature above 34 degrees by 11:30 am today.
Odisha on Saturday witnessed a rise in temperatures with Paralakhemundi becoming the hottest city.
As per the forecast issued by IMD on Friday, the maximum temperature is expected to rise by 6 to 8 degrees C after 24 hours.
Nor’wester rain provided respite from the continuous heatwave conditions across several districts in the state. The maximum and minimum temperatures dipped marginally in the last couple of days owing to the rain.
Odisha is set to witness hotter days during the next four days.
Apart from this, light to moderate rain is also likely to occur in several parts of the state in the next 24 hours. IMD has also predicted a rise in the maximum temperature in Odisha.
Light to moderate rain accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning and squally winds (speed occasionally reaching 40-50 kmph) at isolated places on April 11 and 12 in East Madhya Pradesh.
