To create awareness about hockey and to extend proper hospitality to tourists from abroad and across the country, Bhubaneswar Auto-rickshaw Association on Tuesday organised a rally from Acharya Vihar Square to Kalinga Stadium.

As soon as the 18-member Indian team landed at the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneswar, they were accorded a grand welcome.

Odisha is all set to make history as Men's Hockey World Cup comes to the state for the second consecutive time. Needless to say, excitement is at an all-time high in the two smart cities of the state - Bhubaneswar and Rourkela, which will host more than 40 matches including the big finale. Hockey fever reached its zenith on Sunday (Dec 25) after the World Cup trophy 'landed' in the capital city to a grand welcome. Here's a sneak peek.

India will begin their World Cup campaign against Spain on 13th January in the newly-built Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium in Rourkela.

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said all should work together with the aim that the state should produce 100 Olympians by the time the state will celebrate the centenary celebration of the formation of the state as a special state in 2036. 

The opening ceremony of the Hockey World Cup will be held on January 11 at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack.

The craze for hockey at Rourkela and Bhubaneswar has to be seen to be believed. From early in the morning, hundreds of hockey fans were seen making beelines at ticket counters in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela. 

Namita Meleka has recently returned from Mumbai after recording her song. 

The labourers are seen planting saplings apart from creating grass lawns at major junctions.

The Men's FIH Hockey World Cup-2023 will be organised from January 13 to 29 in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela.

Legendary Sardar Singh, who was part of the 2010 and 2014 World Cup campaigns, recalled his memories from the years gone by.    

During the tour, the prestigious World Cup trophy will be taken across various parts of the country.

This time, the outlay has been enhanced by 16 times to Rs 1,098.40 crore.

The event, scheduled to be held from January 13-29 next year will witness 16 teams slug it out for the coveted trophy. The event will be held at the iconic Kalinga Hockey Stadium and the newly-built Birsa Munda Stadium in Rourkela.

Hockey India President Dilip Tirkey handed over the ticket to Patnaik for the opening day matches to be played at Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium in Rourkela on January 13 next day.
