Hundreds of farmers from three Panchayats of Beguniapada Block in Ganjam, the home district of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, slept on the road throughout the night amid the winter chill protesting alleged inadequate procurement of paddy.
Farmers, on the other hand, are staying out near the mandi in the extreme cold weather both day and night to guard their crops.
An aircraft on Saturday (Dec 11) showered flower petals on farmers as they reached the Shambhu border (Punjab-Haryana border) after ending their year-long agitation in Delhi over farm laws. The aircraft was reportedly arranged by a Non-Resident Indian to accord the farmers for their ‘victory’.
Farmers, mainly from Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, had gathered here in large numbers on November 26 last year to protest against three central farm laws and demand their withdrawal.
The farmers protesting at the borders of the New Delhi have finally ended their year-long agitation as Centre agrees to their demands.
Following the revocation of the law, the Centre had come up with a proposal which was accepted by the farmers.
About the demand for withdrawal of the draft electricity bill, the Centre said that the opinion of all the stakeholders will be taken into before tabling it in Parliament.
In a letter to the party's state unit chiefs, All India Congress Committee General Secretary, K.C. Venugopal said that the celebration on the repeal of all three farm laws by the Central government should reach out to the people and a 'Kisan victory rally' will be organised.
The trade-off behind this decision seems to be made on two critical aspects. The first and the more obvious reason seems to be the real politic based reasons with elections in Punjab and UP round the corner. The second and more significant reason seems to be the scary disconnect that the protests had created between the people of Punjab and particularly the Sikh population and the government.

This is the third Bharat Bandh since the three agricultural laws were passed by Parliament.
