Muslims from all walks of life sporting new clothes and wearing skull caps, offered prayers in a gesture of thanksgiving at the end of the month-long fasting at Eidgahs and mosques across the State. Besides, they relished the ‘seviyan’ sweet dish.
From Bhubaneswar to Bhadrak, Eid festivity gripped areas with sizeable Muslim population. Special arrangements are made in Cuttack, the City of Brotherhood, to mark the Eid celebrations.
Notably, Ramadan, also known as Ramzan, is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar.
Believed to be the month when the first verses of the Quran were revealed to Prophet Muhammad, Muslims fast every day for an entire month, abstaining from food and water from dawn to dusk, besides devoting more time to prayer and doing charity.
Ramadan ends with Eid-ul-Fitr and lasts 29 or 30 days depending on the calendar.
The security forces used tear smoke shells to disperse the protesters in Srinagar's Eidgah area.
Similar protests occurred in Anantnag, Sopore and Kupwara towns.
The police said a youth sustained a pellet injury in his right eye and was being treated at a hospital in Anantnag town.
Police sources said Sheraz Ahmad of Barakpora village, who was injured in the street battles in Janglamandi area, succumbed to his critical injuries in a Srinagar hospital.
Reports said over a dozen protesters had been injured in the clashes. Similar clashes also broke out at other places in the Kashmir Valley.
In Pulwama, a crowd protested against the killing of a nine-year-old boy on Friday in Army firing, the police said.
Youths in Shopian town too resorted to stone pelting.
Clashes took place in Srinagar city's Eidgah area where large crowds of devotees gathered to offer congregational Eid prayers.
Eid prayers were also held at Baramulla, Sopore, Badgam, Kupwara and Ganderbal towns.

Special arrangements were made in order to ensure hassle free celebrations as people thronged to mosques in large numbers to offer namaz. “I wish all Eid Mubarak. We offered namaz and sacrifices as per tradition,” said a resident of Balasore town who had reached the mosque to offer prayers.
Similarly, a huge population thronged the various mosques and eidgah fields in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar and offered prayers. As per tradition, after namaz, an animal is sacrificed and a feast is prepared thereafter. The meat is then cooked and distributed among friends, families and poor.
In several places, non-Muslim families visited the houses of their Muslim friends and greeted them. Similarly Muslim families invited their non-Muslim friends and neighbours to join them in community feast.
“Ei ul-adha is the festival of sacrifice for the larger interest of mankind,” said a devotee who reached the Qadam-E-Rasool in Cuttack on the occasion.
“After offering prayers in the mosque we will return home to relish the delicacies prepared at our homes. Particularly, children and youngsters adorned in new clothes will visit their friends and celebrate the festival. We have invited our non-Muslim friends to join us in the festivities,” said a resident of Bhubaneswar at Unit-IV mosque.
The Muslim community at Unit-IV mosque were seen collecting donation for flood ravaged-Kerala.
Also known as the festival of sacrifice, Ei ul-adha or Bakrid is one among the two eid. The other is Eid ul-fitr. It marks the end of Hajj- an annual pilgrimage to Mecca which Muslim devotees take up once in their lifetime.
It falls on the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah, as per the Islamic lunar calendar and commemorates with Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his son to God and as per traditional beliefs, animals are sacrificed during the festival.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, former Kendrapara MP Baijayant Panda, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and OPCC chief Niranjan Patnaik took to twitter to wish the people on Eid ul-adha.

According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, "Bharat", which also stars actress Katrina Kaif, is Salman's biggest Eid opener. In case you are planning to book your tickets for the movie, please go through these 20 tweets.

#Bharat was quite good. Start was good, dipped in middle and again picked in the last 30 mins. Could have been 10-15 mins short. Aaya na tu song sequence was so good. Ending was emotional (for me). Loved the songs. The cave sequence was heartbreaking.#BharatReview pic.twitter.com/gWqQnwA8kA

#Bharat (Hindi) - 2.5/ 5.
A life without a touching soul, no big story. Pretty good first half followed by a tedious latter. The emotions work out at parts. Direction is good, but the script is loosely packed.

The movie is really good but the songs are forcefully added in it. Whole music album is poor. And it's irritating seeing songs pop up in between. Kat, sunil and satish sir act well. Salman being himself again.

In a confidential report issued to state police units and police headquarters on Friday, the IB said that ISI-backed jehadi groups may carry out terror acts in Jammu and Kashmir and other places in the country around Eid.
According to sources, the Islamic State and Pakistan-backed pro-radical terrorist organisations may target crowded places such as bus stops, railway stations, airports and other important places.
Top IB sources said that even though the IS has not been able to spread terror in India for a long time, the government's decision on Jammu and Kashmir has left it enraged.
Of late, there have been reports of the presence of some sleeper modules backed by Taliban in India. The National Intelligence Agency (NIA) had recently carried out raids in several states, including Kerala, to look for terror cells allegedly linked to the Easter bombings in Sri Lanka that left over 250 people dead.
On Sunday, a meeting was held between clerics and the Kashmir Divisional Commissioner Baseer Khan, Inspector General of Police (Kashmir) Swayam Prakash Pani and Srinagar District Magistrate Shahid Choudhary to ensure a peaceful and smooth Eid.
Choudhary, who visited some of the mosques and grounds where prayers will be offered, said he was trying to reduce inconvenience and ease facilities.
"I am conscious of the fact it needs a lot more for a normal and enjoyable Eid. We are trying to reduce inconveniencies and ease facilities. Just had an elaborate meeting with Imaams for prayer arrangements. Visited venues," he tweeted.
He also said that more than 250 ATMs have been made functional in Srinagar and bank branches were also open.
Baseer Khan said the administration was doing everything to ensure a peaceful Eid.
The Jammu and Kashmir administration had eased the prohibitory orders in Kashmir Valley for the past few days for the people to make purchases for Eid.
"The situation in the state has remained normal so far. No untoward incident has been reported from anywhere so far," said a tweet by the official handle of the J&K Police on Sunday.
In the valley, people thronged the market places during the six hours of relaxation provided for purchases before Eid-al-Adha also known as Bakr Eid.
In his speech to the nation on August 9 post the revocation of Article 370, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had assured that the people of the state would not face any trouble in celebrating Eid and that the situation in the valley will return to normal gradually.
Jammu and Kashmir has been under lockdown since the government on August 5 abrogated Article 370, and has divided the state into two union territories.
Kovind took to Twitter to extend his Eid greetings and posted messages on the microblogging site in three languages -- Hindi, English and Urdu.
"Eid Mubarak to all fellow citizens, especially to our Muslim brothers and sisters in India and abroad," the President tweeted.
"Idu'I Zuha symbolizes love, fraternity and service to humanity. Let us commit ourselves to these universal values that represent our composite culture."
The Prime Minister also chose Twitter to convey his greetings.
"My best wishes on the occasion of Eid al-Adha. I hope it furthers the spirit of peace and happiness in our society. Eid Mubarak!," Modi tweeted.
The Ministry said the residents of Anantnag, Baramulla, Budgam, Bandipore offered prayers and distributed sweets, without any reports of untoward incidents.
"Prayers being offered on the occasion of Eid-al-Adha 2019 in Jammu and Kashmir. Sharing sweets and bringing smiles on everyone's faces," Home Ministry Spokesperson Vasudha Gupta tweeted.
"Eid prayers offered peacefully in all local mosques of Anantnag, Baramulla, Budgam, Bandipore, without any untoward incident. Jamia Masjid old town Baramulla witnessed approx 10,000 people offering prayers," she said.
Gupta urther said that people came out in good numbers to pray on Eid in the newly created Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. "Prayers concluded at prominent mosques in Srinagar and Shopian. Over 4,500 offer prayers at Eidgah Jammu."
Amid massive security arrangements and restrictions, Jammu and Kashmir on Monday marked its first Eid after the revocation of Article 370 on August 5 which gives the erstwhile state a special status and its bifurcation into two Union Territories -- Jammu and Kashmir with an Assembly and Ladakh without one.
According to The Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Regulations, 2011, animals permitted to be killed for meat include only sheep, pigs, cattle, goats, poultry and fish. In addition, the slaughter of animals for food is permissible only in registered or licensed slaughter houses.
The five camels rescued in Varanasi and two in Jaunpur on Monday have been shifted to a care centre.
"Thanks to the compassion and quick action of the people involved in this case, these gentle camels will never be slaughtered," Meet Ashar, PETA India Lead Emergency Response Coordinator, said in a statement.
"We hope this story will inspire people to help other animals by refusing to sacrifice or eat them," she added.
The rescue operation was carried out with the help of senior government officials including the Additional Director General of Police - Law & Order, Uttar Pradesh, and Senior Superintendent of Police and District Magistrate of Varanasi.
"We commend Varanasi district authorities for enforcing the law and showing that cruelty to animals will not be tolerated," said Kamna Pandey, former member of Animal Welfare Board of India.
Speculations that "Kick 2" will be Salmans release on the Eid weekend next year were put to rest by the films director-producer Sajid Nadiadwala during a press interaction on Saturday in Mumbai.
Talking at the event about the current situation of "Kick 2", Nadiadwala said: "I have just started writing it. It is not coming on Eid."
Without mentioning names, he added: "I had gone to his place and he asked me, how much are you ready (to start the film). I said I have written one draft (of the script) and need at least three to six months to re-write the draft. So, I will be ready by Eid with the script."
In other word, "Kick 2" cannot possibly release on Eid 2020 because by that time only the script of the film will be ready.
Speculations that "Kick 2" might release on Eid 2020 gained ground after "Inshallah", Salman's film with Sanjay Leela Bhansali, was shelved. "Inshallah" was originally meant to clash with Akshay Kumar's "Sooryavanshi" on Eid next year.
Although nothing was clearly stated, Salman's cryptic tweet, in the wake of "Inshallah" being shelved, sparked off conjectures among fans that he was readying "Kick 2" for Eid 2020.
Salman's tweet took off from his famous dialogue in his Eid 2014 blockbuster, "Kick".
"Itna mat sochna mere baare mein, dil mein aata hoon.. aur Eid pe bhi (Don't worry so much about me, I arrive into your hearts.. and also arrive on Eid)," he wrote.
With his only other upcoming film, "Dabanagg 3", already confirmed for Christmas 2019, Salman will have to shoot a super quickie if he is indeed serious about arriving on Eid 2020.
Group prayers had been cancelled in the country for almost three months, although this restriction was recently lifted in low-risk areas and for special ceremonies, reports Efe news.
The faithful were also allowed to visit mosques on three important dates during the month of Ramzan, following sanitary protocols imposed by the authorities.
Those who went to religious centres to celebrate Eid wore masks and gloves and placed their prayer mats at a minimum distance from each other to help prevent the spread of the virus.
Hundreds of people gathered at the Bagh-e-Feyz mosque in Tehran, happy to be able to participate in collective prayer again after so long.
Some were still fearful of the contagion and not all the city's mosques held ceremonies, notably including the Grand Mosalla mosque which cancelled prayers which would have been led by Iran's supreme leader Ali Khamenei.
Prayers at Bagh-e-Feyz were held outdoors in a large street in front of the building, something that is customary during Eid celebrations every year to accommodate the huge crowds that gather.
Iran, a former COVID-19 hotspot, has recorded more than 7,300 deaths and 133,000 infections, out of a population of almost 82 million.
Despite the fact that new daily infections remain high, another 1,869 cases were detected on Saturday, Iranian authorities have said the disease is contained and have eased a large part of the restrictions imposed.
Religious and cultural centres will reopen throughout the country after Eid celebrations, although with time limitations in a bid to avoid a resurgence of infections.
Museums, historical buildings and tourist sites have also reopened and all workers must return to their jobs from Saturday.
President Hassan Rouhani announced the reopening in a televised statement on Saturday.
He said last week that restaurants would reopen and sporting events resume after Ramzan.
