As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast, the cyclonic storm is likely to re-curve (while in sea) and, as per the path, may brush Odisha’s coast near Puri.
The Depression over south-east Bay of Bengal has intensified into a deep depression. It is very likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm during the next 12 hours and reach north Andhra Pradesh and Odisha coasts by tomorrow morning.

Yesterday’s low pressure over south Thailand and neighbourhood has emerged into Central Bay of Bengal. It is likely to move west-northwestwards and concentrate into a Depression over southeast and adjoining east-Central Bay of Bengal by tomorrow (December 2).

IMD DG Mrutyunjay Mohapatra shares details on probable cyclone over Bay of Bengal
As per the IMD, a low pressure area lies over South Thailand and neighbourhood and it is likely to emerge into Andaman Sea in the next 12 hours.
In an exclusive interview to OTV, IMD DG Mrutyunjay Mohapatra today said that the cyclonic storm is likely to move northwestwards, intensify further and reach north Andhra Pradesh-Odisha coasts by the morning of December 4, 2021.
The Chief Secretary advised them to keep a vigil on such places where people are likely to cross over to other side during overflow of the streams. He asked them to appoint special officers in every mandal to avoid any human and asset loss.
Cyclonic storm ’Gulab’ is approaching the coast faster and is expected to hit the coast much earlier than anticipated.
Keeping in mind the likely impact of Cyclone Gulab, schools and educational institutions in 11 districts of Odisha will remain closed on Monday (September 27), informed Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Pradeep Jena.

The landfall process has started and the process will take nearly 3-4 hrs, as Yaas is not a fast-moving cyclone. The motion will reduce to half when it touches Odisha landmass.
