The Department of Biotechnology under the Ministry of Science and Technology has launched 'Mission COVID Suraksha- the Indian COVID-19 Vaccine Development Mission'.

Two vaccines, namely Covishield manufactured by the Serum Institute of India and Covaxin manufactured by Bharat Biotech, that have been granted permission for restricted use in emergency situation by the national regulator are being procured by the central government for free supply to states/UTs.

In August, Pfizer plans to ask the Food and Drug Administration for emergency authorization of a third dose.

"The company has received permission from Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) to import Moderna's COVID-19 vaccine for restricted emergency use in the country."

A total of 30,16,26,028 vaccine doses have been administered through 40,45,516 sessions, as per the provisional report on Thursday, with 64,89,599 vaccine doses administered in the last 24 hours.

Of the 80 low-income countries involved in Covax, "at least half of them do not have sufficient vaccines to be able to sustain their programmes right now", Aylward said, at a WHO briefing in Geneva on Monday.

Novavax Inc had announced that NVX-CoV2373, its recombinant nanoparticle protein-based Covid-19 vaccine, demonstrated 100 per cent protection against moderate and severe disease, 90.4 per cent efficacy overall.

"Sonu Sood had received the drugs from several pharmacies located inside the private Lifeline Care Hospital in Goregaon. Pharma company Cipla had supplied Remdesivir to these pharmacies and inquiry into it was still going on," Kumbhakoni said.
