Amidst the scare of the new Covid-19 variant ‘Omicron’, the Institute of Life Sciences (ILS) in Bhubaneswar has confirmed that the new variant has not been detected in any of the 246 COVID19 positive samples.
As many as two students and more than 10 teachers have been tested positive for Covid-19 at different schools in Bhubaneswar.
People should remain alert at community-level since children would be at risk in case a surge happens, cautioned Odisha Health Director, Bijay Mohapatra on Wednesday (Dec 8).

Samples of all the six passengers have been sent to the National Centre for Disease Control for genome sequencing to ascertain if they have the new Omicron strain, which has been classified as a 'variant of concern' by the World Health Organization.
The sample was collected from a 46-year-old person on November 22 and sent to the NCBS lab. His result has also shown that he is positive for Omicron virus. He was kept in home isolation first and later shifted to hospital.
"It is too early to assess whether Omicron causes more severe infection or less compared to variants, including Delta," the official told the press conference quoting the World Health Organisation which has designated the new variant as a 'variant of concern'.
Amidst fear of the new Covid-19 variant ‘Omicron’ in the country, as many as 33 students of a Plus-2 residential college at Kunjakanta under ward No 2 of Dhenkanal Municipality, tested positive for the virus on Wednesday (Dec 1).

The Government of India has issued revised guidelines for international travelers in view of Omicron variant of COVID-19.
According to the new guidelines, the passengers travelling from countries that are categorised as 'at-risk' will have to undergo testing on arrival. If the passengers test positive, their samples will be sent for genomic sequencing, and they will be sent to institutional quarantine.
