As Odisha continues to record between 6000 and 11000 cases even during the lockdown, health experts believe that the present situation is not conducive to relax the restrictions completely.

Odisha has already crossed its peak in the ongoing second wave of Covid19 infection last week and started  showing a downward trend. However, in order to contain the resurgence of Covid-19 cases in the State, lockdown should be extended

Odisha government is currently seeking expert opinion on lockdown extension in the state. Odisha Health Services Director Bijay Mohapatra on Thursday (May 27) stated that the government is currently reviewing the Covid-19 situation in the state and a decision regarding lockdown extension will be taken only after getting opinions of experts.

Delhi has been under a lockdown since April 20 and during this period daily Covid cases were over 25,000 and the average positivity rate was above 30 per cent.

Alarmed by the rising cases of Covid-19 cases, the Sarpanch of the Gelpur Gram Panchayat in Bhadrak district, Mansi Rout reportedly declared a complete shutdown in Nalanga from May 24th to 28th. The decision was taken by the Sarpanch after consulting the authorities and businessmen of the area. Sources said that the villagers were found openly flouting the Covid-19 guidelines recommended by the government which forced the Sarpanch to take strict action to curb the virus spread.

Throwing Covid restriction guidelines to wind, a group of villagers were seen dancing to the tune of loud DJ music while taking out a marriage procession, banned by the government due to rising cases of Coronavirus, in Baranga area under Patrapur block in Ganjam district.

Odisha’s Covid caseload jumped to 67,9530 on Saturday with  11,108 new cases having been reported in the last 24 hours.

Protest erupted at the Badasankha area in Puri after some police officials allegedly thrashed a fruit seller and a local reporter on Wednesday (May 19). Alleging police brutality, the shopkeepers staged a dharna on the road.

Odisha extended the COVID19 lockdown from May 19th (Wednesday) till 5 AM of June 1st (Tuesday).

The two-week lockdown enforced in the State on May 5 was set to end on May 19 but after thorough consultation with health experts, the government has extended the lockdown for two more weeks.

State Health Expert Dr Niroj Mishra has emphasized on lockdown extension in Odisha.

All the depots of OSBC Ltd. will operate during this period for wholesale trade between 6:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M

The traders have said doing business in this short span of trading hour is not possible as it becoming difficult for them to procure essentials from wholesale market and cater it in the local markets.

Oxygen supply in Delhi has improved significantly in the last few days. Vaccination is also going on at a fast pace although there is lack of adequate vaccine stock.

With Tamil Nadu witnessing a sharp increase in the covid-19 cases, the government on Saturday announced clamping a two-week "total lockdown" across the state to curb the spread of the pandemic.
