As per the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), 34 new cases were detected in the Smart city on Friday taking the active cases to 693.
A total of 59 patients also recovered from the COVID infection on Friday (till 9 am), informed the civic body.
So far, 1,65,479 confirmed cases of Covid-19 have been reported from Bhubaneswar out of which 1,63,567 have recovered while 1,198 people succumbed to the infection.
Meanwhile, Odisha today reported 233 new positive cases, including 34 infections in 0-18 years age group, taking the total active cases in the State to 1630.
Khordha reported the highest 53 cases followed by Cuttack (31). Among others, Sundargarh district reported 24 positive cases, Bolangir 12 and Nabarangpur 11 cases.
As per the data shared by the State Information and Public Relations Department, 1320717 people have recovered from the infection so far in Odisha while the active cases currently stand at 1630.
On the other hand, Zenara Pharma recently announced the launch of Nirmatrelvir and Ritonavir tablets as a treatment option for patients with mild to moderate Covid symptoms.
The tablet, which will be sold under the brand name 'Paxzen', is being manufactured at Zenara's US FDA and EU approved facility in Hyderabad.
The declared restricted areas are: Plot No 1499/A at Acharya Vihar (near Sai Temple), Plot No 120-B at Satyanagar, Plot No 60 at Bapuji Nagar, Plot No 1147 at Bishnu Nagar, Tankapani Road, and Plot No L3/65 near Water Tank at Acharya Vihar.
The BMC stated that no public will be allowed to move into the containment zones and the inhabitants within the zones will not move out.
"All the inhabitants within the containment zone shall strictly remain at home. BMC will supply essentials and ensure medical requirements for the inhabitants in the Containment Zone," the BMC said.
On Tuesday, the BMC sealed the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) at Vani Vihar area for two days after the detection of multiple Covid positive cases.
“In view of detection of Covid-19 positive cases at DCP office, Vani Vihar Square, Bhubaneswar, in larger public interest and with a view to contain the further spread of virus, DCP Office at Vani Vihar in Bhubaneswar is sealed for a period of two days from January 4 to January 5, 2022,” read an office order issued by BMC.
The BMC has declared four flats (Flat No. G-151, G-132, G-142 and G-112) of Cosmopolis Apartment in Ward No 64 after the detection of the positive cases to contain further spread of the virus.
"It is necessary to make the affected area as a containment zone and to restrict public from entering into and going out of the containment zone," the BMC said.
As per an official release, in the larger public interest and with a view to contain the spread of COVID-19, the corporation has directed to implement certain restrictions:
i. No public shall be allowed to move into the containment zone and the inhabitants within the containment zone shall not move out.
ii. All the inhabitants within the containment zone shall strictly remain in home.
iii. All the Govt and private Institutions located within the containment zone is hereby closed forthwith.
iv. BMC will supply essentials and ensure medical requirements for the inhabitants in the containment zones. Shri Z.Abedin.WO(9938848599) of BMC South-West Zone shall remain in charge of supplies where as RRT Dr. Diptiman Behera(9853339588) shall remain in charge of medical requirements of the citizens inside the containmrt area.
Earlier, on Tuesday, the BMC had declared a portion of Jayadurga Nagar in Bomikhal as containment zone following the detection of two Covid positive persons in the area.
The BMC had said that the two patients live in Plot No. 1303 and 1304 of Jayadurga Nagar in Bomikhal.
“The government had earlier declared to create micro containment zones in places witnessing a surge in the cases. The radius of containment zone can also be increased if cases continue to spread in the concerned region,” stated Mohanty.
“Accordingly, when Covid-19 cases recorded a rise in the last two days in the Capital City, containment zones were declared to prevent the further spread of the virus,” added the DMET Chief.
“The Covid-19 graph has been fluctuating for the last seven days. There has been a moderate rise in the cases in Bhubaneswar. However, this can be avoided if people strictly abide by Covid appropriate behaviour,” stressed Mohanty.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) reintroduced containment measures in the city. The civic body declared Rajendra Vihar Apartment situated in ward no 52 of the city as a containment zone. The BMC took the move after 20 positive cases were detected from 11 of the 203 flats in the residential complex.
Meanwhile, the smart city reported 111 Covid-19 positive cases, which included 95 local contacts and 16 quarantine cases, on Wednesday. With this, the active cases in the City stood at 3,372.
A hospital employee also tested positive for the COVID19 in the capital city. The 32-year-old is reportedly an employee of a Central government hospital.
A 34-year-old male and a 62-year-old female from Bhimpur area near Bhubaneswar Airport have tested positive for COVID-19, a release from the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) informed. Both belong to the same family linked with an earlier positive case with travel history to Delhi, BMC said.
Another positive case detected from the same Bhimpur area from near Maa Shakti Hospital is a 64-year-old male with travel history to Delhi.
A 25-year-old male from Dumduma HB Colony, who had recently returned from the national capital, has also tested COVID-19 positive.
Two more positive cases have also been reported from Sabar Sahi area in Nayapalli that includes a female (20) and a male (15) of a family linked with an earlier positive case with travel history to Delhi.
Similarly, another COVID-19 case has been reported from Saranpalli in Jaydev Vihar. The patient is stated to be a 37-year-old female linked to an earlier positive case of a service provider in a private hospital.
A 24-year-old girl belonging to another district, who was in paid quarantine in Bhubaneswar, has tested positive. She is reportedly a contact of an earlier positive case with travel history to Delhi.
Moreover, a 27-year-old male from Naharkanta near Puri Canal road area has also tested positive.
Of the total cases, 14 were in home quarantine while 3 others are local contact cases, informed BMC.
After detection of the new cases, the number of COVID-19 active cases in the State Capital has jumped to 64. So far, 149 persons have been found positive for the virus in the city. Meanwhile, seven COVID-19 patients recovered in the past 24 hours in Bhubaneswar, taking the total number of recoveries to 81.

On the other hand, the BMC today sealed a private hospital in Mancheswar area for allegedly violating COVID-19 guidelines and issued show cause notice to the hospital authorities.
As per reports, 27 COVID-19 cases have been detected from the hospital due to non-compliance of the government’s prescribed guidelines.
All other employees of the hospital and direct contacts have been quarantined and tested. Besides, premises of the concerned health facility have been sanitised, informed BMC.
"We think the hospital staff violated the COVID-19 guidelines while treating a positive patient that led to the spread of the infection," said Pramod Prusty, zonal deputy commissioner, BMC.

According to data shared by the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation, four cases have been reported from Laxmi Bazaar slum in the city with two females, aged 31 and 38 years, testing positive for Coronavirus apart from two males (50 and 18 years). All of them are linked to an earlier-reported positive case.
A 52-year-old male, a native of other district working as a private security guard near RBI office in the city has also tested positive for the virus.
Similarly, three employees of a private hospital linked with an earlier case have also tested positive.
On the other hand, the BMC informed that as many as 10 patients have also recovered from the disease. The new recoveries include a 27 year-old-male from Satya Nagar, 19-year-old male from Salia Sahi, 2 persons from Dumduma, 2 from Bhimpur and 4 railway employees.
The total Covid cases in the city currently stands at 283, which includes 148 recoveries, 131 active cases and 3 deaths.
With the detection of 170 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the total cases in Odisha rose to 6350 on Saturday. One more person also died of COVID-19, taking the death toll in the State to 18.

Moreover, 184 recoveries were reported today. Ganjam district which has been the worst-affected, registered maximum of 48 recoveries followed by Khurda with 45 recoveries, Balasore 31, Gajapati 12, Bhadrak 10, Jagatsinghpur and Jharsuguda 6 each, Cuttack 2 and Sundergarh 4.

“In view of the steep rise in Covid-19 positive cases in Bhubaneswar and in order to minimise the number of visitors coming to Lok Seva Bhawan, Kharavel Bhawan, Rajeev Bhawan, and Krushi Bhawan, it has been decided to keep in abeyance all passes issued to visitors for these offices till July, 31,” read the order.
However, any request for entry of outsiders and for such pass holders will only be entertained on the request received from the office of the Secretaries of the concerned department to the Special Secretary of Home Department.
Similarly, the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) office was shut down yesterday for 48 hours after two of its staff tested positive for the virus.
In order to tackle the pandemic, the State government has advised each department to appoint a senior officer as Covid Compliance Officer who will ensure strict implementation of the guidelines by conducting daily office inspection and will submit a weekly COVID audit report to the head of the office.
Bhubaneswar has a total of 332 coronavirus cases which includes 135 active cases, 192 recoveries, and four deaths.

Among the new positives, the aforesaid 26 have been detected from a flour mill near Mancheswar. Similarly, 14 cases were reported from Ganpati Nagar Basti in IRC Village area. At least nine staff of a construction company near Rajmahal Chhak and three persons of Trinath Basti in Nayapalli have also contracted the virus, informed the BMC.
“Further contact tracing is still continuing. Primary contacts and nearby houses are being quarantined, sanitised & will be under active surveillance,” added the BMC.
Earlier, a 64-year-old man of Sector 16 in Rourkela who had tested positive with the virus turned out to be a super spreader when the authorities traced his contacts and found that he had infected more than 100 persons. However, he succumbed to the disease while undergoing treatment.

Odisha Sees Over 1000 New COVID-19 Cases, Tally Nears 20k-Mark
Bhubaneswar BJP president, Babu Singh today lashed out at the State government and said that the Naveen Patnaik-led government has fallen flat in handling the COVID-19 situation in the Smart city.
"The unabated rise in COVID-19 cases has become a cause of grave concern for the people of Bhubaneswar. Besides, the exponential rise in local contact cases is alarming," said Singh.
He further said, "When the situation went out of control in Delhi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah intervened and the situation is now under control in the national capital. We request CM Naveen that, if needed, he should also seek help of the Home Minister in dealing with the situation in Bhubaneswar."
Responding to the allegations, ruling-BJD's Bhubaneswar-Central MLA, Anant Narayan Jena said that there is nothing to panic about the current situation in Bhubaneswar as the government is concerned about the safety of people.
"There are around 4-5 lakh slum dwellers in Odisha but only a few of them have been infected. As their work is to roam around and work at different places, they have contracted the virus. Our awareness programme is on and we are taking all possible measures to contain the infection," said Jena.
A total of 215 new COVID-19 cases were detected in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday, taking the total number of positive cases in the city to 2365.
Of the total 215 cases, 150 positives were from quarantine centres while 65 are local contact cases.
