Following heavy rains in the upper catchment areas of the Subarnarekha river in the neighboring state, the Jharkhand government had to open the Galudih barrage releasing flood water into Odisha.

It is a paradox that the state government keeps seeking huge centre assistance for relief and rehabilitation for Mahanadi flood but would not take up the Subalaya project which would bring permanent remedy.

With flood situation in Odisha worsening, water level of the Mahanadi River at Kalma Barrage in Chhattisgarh is being closely monitored.

A tragedy was averted on Saturday at the Bhatapara railway station in Chhattisgarh. We will demand the Chhattisgarh government to open at least five sluice gates in order to ensure water inflows to Hirakud dam. The government should let the river flow.”
