India is the second-largest footwear manufacturer in the world with 9 per cent of the annual global production, CAIT claimed.
The CAIT added that violations by Amazon has caused collateral damage to traders as more than two lakh shops, majorly of mobile trade, have been closed due to "vicious tripartite nexus comprising Amazon, brand owing companies and various banks including government banks".
CAIT National President B.C. Bhartia and Secretary General Praveen Khandelwal said that as per reports available in public domain during initial interrogation by the NIA, the person arrested disclosed that he used his Amazon online shopping account to procure chemicals for making IEDs.
Both leaders reiterated that the Consumer Affairs Ministry should implement the draft consumer protection e-commerce rules at the earliest as they are in the best interest of the consumers as well as the traders of the country as it will not only ensure the best quality and price for the consumers.
The association is of the view that although it supports government initiatives and regulatory interventions to protect consumer interests, the proposed amendments to the rules raise several concerns and ambiguities from an e-commerce business standpoint which are also likely to have unintended negative consequences for consumers.
Confederation of All India Traders said that any marketplace having an equity or economic interest in any entity should not be allowed to sell goods on the said marketplace and it should be treated as "affiliated entity".
In view of such a situation, the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has launched an "e-commerce purification week" from Monday to June 21, which is gaining massive support from thousands of trade associations across the Country.
