The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation has imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 each on three agencies for affixing ‘To-Let’ posters on the walls.
A committee comprising two corporators from each zone and, the Zonal Deputy Commissioner (ZDC) and the additional commissioner as its members will finalise the kinds of events and programmes to be incorporated in the Raahgiri.
The rights body has directed Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner to submit a report in this regard by December 11, 2023. The notice has been issued based on the complaint filed by one Sura Patra and other members of Anchalika Surakshya Manch.
Aggravated over the issue, a group of residents on Monday distributed ointment used in the treatment of scabies, rashes and itching among the residents of Dhirakut slum.
The issue reared its head again as people living within a 5-km radius of a Temporary Transit Centre (TTC) behind Sainik School alleged that they have been facing a nauseating atmosphere for the last seven days.
During the ongoing Navratri, most people consume vegetable items. Had the association stuck to its decision, it would have a huge impact on city dwellers.
Kabiraj Swain, president of the vegetable traders’ association said, “An illegal market for selling winter clothes and other articles has come up on the roads. They did not allow our vehicles to enter the market during Ganesh Puja. We had given a written complaint to the BMC, but no step was taken to clear the road.”
The process of cremation of unidentified bodies of the train accident which began on Tuesday evening was completed at about 8 am on Wednesday, BMC Mayor Sulochana Das said.
After the train tragedy on June 2, 2023, 162 bodies were shifted to AIIMS in a phased manner for preservation. After verification, 81 bodies were handed over to the bereaved families.
“Cremation will be carried out as per the guidelines laid out by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) with respect to the cremation of unidentified bodies. The traditional method of cremation with firewood will be followed," informed BMC Commissioner.
Their demands reportedly include a parking facility, drainage system, and eviction of encroachments among others.
Addressing a press conference, BJP’s Bhubaneswar District President, Babu Singh said, “The BMC Commissioner has been reiterating that they are distributing pattas (Record of Rights) among the slum dwellers. But, they are not pattas. They are Land Record Certificates (LRCs)."
As per Jaga Mission rules; eligible slum dwellers will be provided Land Right Certificates (LRCs) free of cost if they have been staying on a land area of 323 sqft or less. If anybody is found to have been occupying more than 323 sqft then they will have to pay a premium amount to receive the LRC.
"People think a decrease in platelet counts requires hospitalisation. But that is a misconception," said Public Health Director, Dr Niranjan Mishra.
Odisha Public Health Director, Niranjan Mishra said as testing has increased there has been a rise in the detection of cases but, there is absolutely nothing to panic about.
