Several States and UTs have reported an increasing number of patients suffering from Covid complications in the form of Mucormycosis, popularly known as Black Fungus. There is also a reported shortage of Amphotericin-B, an anti-fungal drug used for treatment of the Black Fungus disease.

Odisha Government has declared Black Fungus infection as a Notifiable Disease under the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897. The state Health and Family Welfare Department issued a notice in this regard on Thursday, informing that it has included Mucormycosis or Black Fungus Infection as a Notifiable Disease under Section-2 of the Epidemic Disease Act 1897.
In a major development concerning public health, the Odisha government on Thursday declared Black Fungus (Mucormycosis) a Notifiable Disease under epidemic act.
All government and private health facilities shall follow guidelines for screening, diagnosis and management of Black Fungus by the union health ministry and Indian Council of Medical Research.
Currently, tRajasthan has around 100 black fungus patients and a separate ward has been made at Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital in Jaipur for their treatment.

With a spike in the cases of COVID-19 in the country, doctors have been reporting a rare infection mucormycosis, also called as black fungus, among people recovered from COVID-19. The infection is caused by exposure to mucor mould and it affects the sinuses, the brain and the lungs and can be life-threatening.
A 71-year-old man from Jajpur presently residing in Bhubaneswar has been infected with Black Fungus.
Black Fungus disease also known as Mucormycosis is being widely reported among COVID-19 survivors in the country.
The fatal Black Fungus disease also known as Mucormycosis has now also been reported from patients in the State Capital city of Odisha.
