Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ridiculed Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s announcement to make Odisha a trillion-dollar economy.  

Begunia and Khordha Assembly segments come under the Bhubaneswar Lok Sabha constituency where all three parties are yet to announce their candidates. The delay in picking up candidates has left the electorate confused.

On Berhampur Assembly seat, BJP is yet to taste victory. The party was earlier in fourth position and now climbed to number 2 spot.

With just 8 days left for nomination filing for the first phase of elections in which 28 Assembly Constituencies will go to polls, the BJD, the BJP and the Congress have not yet announced candidates in four, nine and five seats respectively. 

The Rourkela Assembly seat is likely to witness a high-octane fight as BJD has nominated Dilip Ray’s arch-rival, Sarada Nayak.

The BJP alleged that the government has sanctioned over Rs 500 crore of the tribal welfare development department to an NGO despite the model code of conduct being in force. The party leaders met the CEO and furnished pictorial evidence of the ASHAs and Anganwadi workers engaged in partisan activities. 

‘Odia Asmita’ (Odia pride) is seemingly becoming a major poll plank in the 2024 elections in Odisha, as top leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state have repeatedly been raising this issue to corner the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD).

A leading Odia daily did the utterly laughable by choosing to omit the name of the BJD in the list of recipients of the electoral bond provided in an agency copy!

Veteran Congress leader and Jatani MLA Suresh Routray denied allegations of him campaigning for his son who is a BJD candidate for Bhubaneswar Lok Sabha seat.

With Nuapada Zilla Adivasi Sangha giving its consent to former MLA Ghasiram Majhi to join the fray as an independent candidate, the electoral battle in Nuapada Assembly constituency is going to be a four-cornered one.

For the last few days, many ticket aspirants have been camping in Bhubaneswar because they fear the mathematics may go against them in their absence.  

It is said that the BJD is haunted by fears of losing ground in the Lok Sabha elections amid reports of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s popularity in Odisha.    

Senior BJP leader Samir Mohanty told the media, "The model code of conduct is in force and the ECI barred the IPS from taking part in any election duty. However, it has been seen that Kutey is calling SPs, IICs and political leaders. He has been working on partisan lines. This is a violation of the poll MCC.”

The list of opposition leaders who joined the BJD is long. Congress leader of Titilagarh Surendra Singh Bhoi has been made BJD’s MP candidate for Bolangir after he joined the party. Former Salipur MLA and BJP leader Prakash Behera joined the BJD and has been made Cuttack-Barabati MLA candidate.      

The BJP has repeated its candidate K Narayan Rao who had won the seat in 2019. The BJD has given a chance to a new face like Rupesh Panigrahi while the Congress has banked on former chief secretary and senior party leader Bijay Patnaik.
