Apart from the heavy rainfall forecast, the IMD has also sounded ‘Yellow Warning’ for thunderstorm with lightning for the districts of Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nawarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Boudh, Cuttack and Jagatsinghpur.

The southern part of Odisha is likely to receive heavy rainfall on October 16 and 17 as a fresh low pressure area has formed over the Bay of Bengal, forecast the Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar.

The India Meteorological Department IMD) has issued a forecast suggesting that the low pressure is likely to form over North Andaman Sea around October 10. 

As per 3 lead Met model forecasts, 2 LPS to form in Bay of Bengal between Oct 6-12. While one is predicted to see cyclone genesis in Arabian Sea, the other may aim at Andhra Pradesh or Odisha  

A well-marked low pressure now lies over western parts of Gangetic West Bengal and neighbourhood, informed the Indian Meteorological Department. The low pressure area formed over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal area of west Bengal on September 28th morning.

The system presently lies over the western parts of Gangetic West Bengal and neighbourhood and the associated cyclonic circulation extends up to mid-tropospheric levels, the weather bureau informed in its latest bulletin.
